This provision is good
The childminder works effectively with her co-childminder to develop continually the service they provide for children and families. They reflect on their practice and talk to parents and children to tailor their provision successfully to children's individual needs. Children behave well. The childminder is a good role model and provides gentle encouragement to support children to share and cooperate during activities. Older children are considerate towards the younger children and happily include them in their play. The childminder is friendly and caring and provides good support to children's emotional development. For example, she interacts positively with babies and reassures them with frequent smiles and cuddles. Children settle quickly and develop a strong sense of security. Older children are confident to explore the activities on offer. The childminder observes children as they play to make accurate assessments of their

development. Overall, she plans interesting activities that help children to make good progress in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather precise information from parents about their children's levels of development when they start to attend, to establish their starting points clearly. Sometimes, the childminder misses opportunities to extend activities for older children to help them to make the best possible progress in their learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and her co-childminder engaged in activities with children. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector talked to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documents, including children's records. The inspector took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her co-childminder keep their knowledge and understanding of child protection up to date and work together effectively to keep children safe from harm. They are vigilant and know the signs that might lead them to be concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder is clear about local safeguarding procedures. She is experienced in childcare and continues to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. For example, she receives advice from specialist teachers to support children with developing their phonic skills. This helps children to move on to their future education with confidence. The childminder monitors children's learning effectively. She notices any gaps in their development and works in good partnerships with outside agencies to help all children to reach their full potential.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Overall, the childminder has a good understanding of how to promote children's learning through play. For example, she encourages older children to join in with action songs that help them to learn the sounds that letters of the alphabet represent. Children take part eagerly and develop good early literacy skills. Younger children join in with enthusiasm and begin to enjoy moving to music. The childminder successfully promotes children's mathematical development, for example, through their self-chosen activities. She encourages older children to count accurately and recognise numbers as they play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is attentive to children's individual needs and ensures they are comfortable, happy and ready to enjoy activities. For example, she sensitively supports babies during nappy changing routines, smiling and talking to them to provide reassurance and support. Older children follow good hygiene routines, such as washing their hands before eating, and quickly become independent in their personal care. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy lifestyles effectively. For example, she prepares nutritious, home-cooked meals and encourages children to enjoy physical activity. Children benefit from regular fresh air and are physically active.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and gain the skills they need for future learning and starting school. Older children concentrate well and persevere with activities such as puzzles and games. They become motivated to learn and demonstrate a sense of pride in their achievements. Younger children skilfully manipulate toys and resources and develop good physical skills. Children make good progress in their communication and language development. Younger children talk about their experiences confidently and younger children make adults aware of their needs. They smile and babble and develop new vocabulary quickly.
