This provision is good
Children enjoy the time they spend at this welcoming and friendly playgroup. They enjoy taking part in interesting and exciting activities that are based on their current interests. Managers and staff monitor children's progress well. This enables them to identify and react to any gaps in their learning. All children, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, are well supported and make good progress. Children behave very well. They learn to follow instructions, share, take turns and be kind to one another. Staff offer children clear and appropriate rules and boundaries. For example, children understand they must stay close to staff when using the public playing field adjacent to the playgroup. Self-evaluation, which involves children, staff, parents and local authority advisers, is effective. Managers and staff are ambitious and passionate about providing children

with good-quality early years experiences.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff do not consistently give parents enough information about the plans for children's future learning and how these can be followed up at home. Staff do not provide the same level of opportunities outdoors as indoors, to support those children who prefer to play and learn outside.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed staff engaging with children in a range of activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager. The inspector held a meeting with the manager. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of staff working in the playgroup. The inspector spoke to children and parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff are confident with the procedure to follow should they have concerns about a child's welfare. They maintain a safe environment and supervise children well. Staff follow risk assessments effectively to minimise risks to children. Staff receive ongoing supervisions, training and support. This helps to maintain their good skills and helps to improve the outcomes for children. Parents speak very highly about the playgroup. They say that their children enjoy attending and they are very pleased with the progress they are making. Good partnerships are established with other professionals involved with children's care and learning. This helps to complement children's experiences between the settings they attend.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff use the information they gain from their own observations and assessments to plan effectively for each child's individual learning needs. They interact well with children as they play, helping to extend their learning. Staff capture children's interests during activities, such as encouraging children to explore mixing different coloured paints as they decorate butterfly pictures. Children thoroughly enjoy listening to well-read stories and joining in with action songs. They learn to concentrate and are beginning to sit and focus their attention for longer periods.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff support children's emotional well-being effectively. Staff are kind, caring and respond well to the individual needs of children. New children to the playgroup are given good support to enable them to settle quickly. Staff use frequent praise and encouragement. This promotes children's confidence and encourages a can-do attitude to learning. Children develop their independence. They are encouraged to put on their own outdoor clothing before going outside to play and independently take care of their own toileting needs. Children have regular opportunities to benefit from fresh air. They develop their physical skills well as they learn to climb the steps to the slide and play on large playground equipment. Staff promote healthy lifestyles effectively. They make mealtimes social occasions and talk to the children about which types of food help them to grow and stay healthy.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident learners who are keen to get involved with the activities on offer. They readily engage in conversations with their friends, staff and visitors. Children make choices in their play and stay motivated in their chosen activities. Older children are learning to recognise their own name. Younger children learn new skills, such as pouring themselves a drink. All children are gaining the necessary skills to support their eventual move to school.
