This provision is good
Children form strong attachments to the childminder and other children. They are confident, happy and develop strong friendships. The childminder meets children's emotional needs well. The childminder knows children well. She assesses their development carefully and identifies areas where they need more support to help them make good progress. Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's progress and values their contributions about children's learning. The childminder is well organised. She provides children with a good range of activities that supports their interests. She takes children to local groups where she helps them to develop good social skills and helps them to develop their self-esteem and confidence. Children learn to mix well with others.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to encourage children to develop their thinking skills and build on their learning to the best of their ability. The childminder does not focus her self-evaluation effectively enough to identify all specific areas for development to promote her practice to the very highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector and childminder discussed and evaluated activities which children were involved in. The inspector looked at records and evidence of the suitability of the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents, provided in writing.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough knowledge of local safeguarding procedures and knows what to do, to help protect children from harm. She successfully implements her policies and procedures to promote children's health and safety. The childminder consistently accesses training and personal development opportunities to help improve her practice and improve outcomes for children. She applies her knowledge effectively and monitors the impact on children's learning well. The childminder regularly carries out risk assessments of her home and the outings she takes children on. She encourages children to consider hazards and risks.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her training and experience well to support children's individual needs and next steps. For example, children enjoy learning and using numbers. They say that an octopus has eight tentacles not five and they say which brick tower is smaller or taller. Children learn to recognise and use colour, shape and patterns as they play. The childminder enthusiastically asks them plenty of questions to encourage them to talk about what they are doing. The childminder encourages children to develop good skills in preparation for early writing. They experiment making marks with crayons and pencils and some children write their own names or form recognisable letters. Story times are an interactive experience as children join in with the story, making the noises of various animals. Children delight in using their imagination to add to the story. They jump like frogs, roar like a lion and describe an animal as 'grumpy'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has warm and close relationships with children. She teaches children to be kind, tolerant and respectful and they quickly learn about the importance of good manners. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. They confidently follow hygiene routines and understand why they eat healthy food. The childminder provides a wide range of opportunities for children to enjoy exciting outings where they develop very good social skills and learn about the world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills in preparation for their next stage in learning and in readiness for school. They are happy, confident and enthusiastic to learn and engage in the activities. Children are developing confidence and skill in their language. For example, children who are excited about a forthcoming holiday make sure everyone in the room knows about this. They look at books independently and with great excitement as they turn the pages carefully and respond to what they see.
