This provision is good
The childminder provides a well-resourced learning environment. She pays close attention to health and safety and completes daily checks of her home to ensure that all areas used by the children are safe and suitable. Children access the areas and resources safely. Children form close bonds with the childminder, and are happy and settled in her care. This has a positive effect on their emotional well-being. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She offers a relaxed approach to learning and provides activities that interest the children and that are flexible, so children take the lead in their learning. The childminder supports children's play well to help them make good progress. Children have daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise in the childminder's garden. This helps to promote their good health and supports their physical development. The childminder ensures that children receive a variety of experiences, so they can discover

and learn about the world around them. For instance, she plans trips out to places, such as farms, country parks and the library. The childminder completes additional training courses and keeps up to date with developments in childcare practice to improve outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently engage all parents in their children's ongoing learning to promote consistency between the setting and home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

encourage all parents to be fully involved in their children's learning and share what children learn at home.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. She evaluated activities with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and children's records and discussed the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and those living on the premises. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is committed to providing children with high-quality care and education. She regularly reflects on and evaluates her practice. She continues to make improvements to enhance her provision, such as developing the outdoor area to enhance children's learning opportunities. The well-organised childminder implements robust policies and procedures, and shares them with parents. This helps to provide parents with reassurance that children are well cared for and safe. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended training to ensure that she can protect children. She knows the appropriate action to take if she has any concerns about the welfare of a child in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of the age group with which she is working. She discusses with parents what children already know and can do when they first start at her setting. This helps her get to know children and plan for their continuing progress. Babies have ample space to move and practise their early walking skills. They are inquisitive as they actively explore their surroundings. The childminder gets down to children's level and talks to them as they play. She responds well to young children's babbles and gestures, and models language as they play. The childminder uses opportunities to incorporate numbers, shapes and colours into children's play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's well-being and good health well. She freshly prepares meals that accommodate children's dietary needs to enable them to eat a healthy and varied diet. The childminder offers parents advice about, which types of food to provide their children to encourage healthy eating. She supports children to develop their independence at an age-appropriate level. For instance, the childminder encourages young children to learn to feed themselves with spoons. She routinely provides praise and encouragement as she recognises children's efforts and achievements. This enables children to develop their confidence and self-esteem. The childminder helps children to gain an understanding of risk through everyday routines and outings. For example, they practise the emergency evacuation drill. The childminder teaches children safe practices, such as how to cross the road, so they learn to identify risks for themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop many skills to support their future learning, including their eventual move on to school. They show an eagerness to investigate and discover how things work. For example, babies learn about cause and effect as they realise that pushing a button makes a character pop up on a toy. Children learn about healthy practices from an early age, such as washing their hands after a nappy change and before eating. They enjoy looking at books and have many opportunities to develop their early reading and writing skills.
