This provision is good

 The childminder builds strong bonds with children. She is kind and caring and makes children's learning enjoyable. Children are very happy, settled and secure in her care.  The childminder assesses children's learning precisely and keeps accurate and detailed records of their development. She plans challenging next steps in learning for each child to help close any gaps. All children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning and school.  The childminder works very well with parents. She regularly asks them to share information about children's interests and learning from home and keeps them fully up to date with their children's current development. Parents greatly appreciate the personal support and care their children receive.  The childminder reflects thoroughly on the effectiveness of her provision. She regularly seeks the views of parents, children and professionals to help identify areas to enhance

further. She makes continuous improvements to help raise children's outcomes.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to that arise to fully support children's understanding of the importance of healthy eating.  Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to adapt activities and take account of children's responses to fully support their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 offer more consistent support to help children fully understand the benefits of healthy eating on their physical well-being  adapt activities to ensure they are highly responsive to children and fully support their learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children and the childminder playing together.  The inspector examined a sample of documentation, including safeguarding policies and procedures, and children's records.  The inspector and childminder discussed the play activities and children's learning during the inspection and undertook a joint observation of children's play.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this had on children's learning.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The highly qualified childminder works hard to keep her childcare knowledge and skills up to date. She completes regular training, researches into best practice and shares experiences with other childminders to help her gain new ideas. For example, she has recently improved her support for children's speech and how to model language. The childminder has also improved the environments for children, making it easier for them to choose resources and lead their own play. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has secure and up-to-date knowledge of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about the safety of any of the children in her care. She supervises children closely and maintains a safe and secure environment.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows children well and plans an engaging environment that effectively reflects their interests and abilities. For example, children enjoy exploring a well-resourced role-play shop and acting out real-life experiences. The childminder extends their learning well as they play, such as by encouraging them to count coins and recognise numbers. The childminder teaches children new skills and supports their physical development successfully. For instance, she shows children how to use scissors correctly and encourages them to practise their new skills as they create colourful 'wind socks'. The childminder encourages plenty of interesting and thought-provoking conversation. She listens carefully to what children say and shows a genuine interest in their lives, interests and recent experiences.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a very good role model for children. She gently reminds them of her high expectations and consistently praises their efforts. Children behave well and are considerate and respectful to the childminder and her home. They actively include the childminder in their play, for example, when asking if she wants to be shopper or shopkeeper. Children have exciting opportunities for outdoor play and regular exercise. They explore local parks and beaches and walk the childminder's dog in and around the local community. Children are sociable, confident and thoughtful.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well motivated in their learning and concentrate very well. They pay close attention during creative activities and when choosing where to put furniture in the dolls' house. Children have strong mathematical skills and a good understanding of numbers and shapes. They are very imaginative and act out detailed narratives in their play. Children develop good social skills and regularly meet up with other childminders and their children. They follow instructions well and begin to write recognisable letters.
