This provision is good
Children are happy and settled in this warm and welcoming environment. Strong bonds exist between the children and childminder. Comprehensive information gathered from parents prior to the children attending help them to quickly settle into the childminder's home. The childminder effectively promotes children's understanding of the world and their local community well. Children enjoy regular and varied trips in the local community to have fun and socialise with others. The childminder recognises the benefits of sharing information with others involved in the shared care and education of children. She works closely with staff at nurseries children attend to help provide consistency between settings. The childminder carries out comprehensive risk assessments on her premises and other outdoor venues well. She makes any necessary changes to ensure that children remain safe and secure at all times.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to link observations and assessments of children's learning, to plan meaningful activities to support children's learning and development. The childminder does not regularly share information about children's learning with parents to ensure consistency and support for their learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to and interacted with children during the inspection. She took into account the written views of parents that were provided by the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of her responsibility to recognise and report any concerns about a child's safety and welfare. She has an up-to-date safeguarding policy and procedure to refer to and share with parents. The childminder uses progress check for children aged between two and three years to monitor children's progress. This helps to ensure she quickly addresses any potential gaps identified in the children's learning. The childminder reflects on her own practice to evaluate her teaching and its impact on children's learning. An ongoing programme of training and professional development helps the childminder to improve her knowledge and remain up to date with her practice. The childminder is effective in ensuring that her assistant has attended all essential training courses.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the learning needs of the age range of children for whom she is caring. She observes the children while they play to help her assess their progress. The childminder provides children with opportunities to develop their small-muscle skills. For example, children enjoy moulding and manipulating dough. The childminder skilfully extends the activity to talk about the shapes and size of the dough the children make. This helps to extend children's vocabulary as the childminder teaches them new words. The childminder promotes mathematics to young children through enjoyable activities. Children plant sunflower seeds to grow, and measure these to see, which is tallest and, which is shortest. The childminder encourages children to be as independent as possible. For example, she sets out good-quality toys and resources at their level, so they can independently choose what they want to use.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a good understanding of individual children's dietary requirements. She provides a healthy and well-balanced selection of snacks and meals. Children are given clear messages about the importance of eating healthily and taking physical exercise. They use the garden to explore new experiences, such as planting and tending to vegetables and flowers. Children test out their balancing and climbing skills on the various equipment. This helps them to develop their physical skills well. The childminder acts as a good role model, helping children learn right from wrong and what is expected of them. Children enjoy plenty of praise and encouragement. This helps to boost their self- esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their different starting points. They successfully develop a range of skills to prepare them well for their future learning and eventual move on to school. Children's mathematical skills are emerging well. They use size and number language in various ways in their play. Children develop good social skills. They play cooperatively with their friends and others.
