This provision is good

 The childminder observes and assesses children's progress effectively. She interacts well with children and extends their learning, helping them to make good progress.  The childminder has good relationships with local schools and other settings children attend to support their continuity of care and learning. Children make good progress from their starting points.  Children form strong attachments to the childminder. They behave well and are learning to share and take turns with one another. The youngest children are starting to understand boundaries.  The childminder effectively monitors her provision through regular self-evaluation. She has used her self-evaluation, for example, to help children benefit and learn from regular outside experiences.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make the most of her good relationships with parents to help them complement and extend their children's learning at home.  The childminder sometimes overlooks opportunities to fully support the youngest children to explore natural materials to help further develop their curiosity and understanding of the world.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance partnerships with parents even further to help support parents to complement and extend their children's learning at home  enhance opportunities for the youngest children to explore natural materials to build further on their learning and curiosity.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the childminder at convenient times during the inspection.  The inspector had a tour of the premises, and observed children taking part in activities and evaluated the impact on their learning.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including records of children's learning and suitability checks for adults living in the household.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has updated her safeguarding knowledge recently and attended training. This has helped her to recognise signs that children may be at risk from extreme behaviours or views. She uses risk assessments effectively to help identify and minimise potential hazards in the home, garden and while on outings, to help keep children safe. The childminder extends her professional development well. For example, she attends training courses and uses her own research. This has helped her, for example, to plan for children's all-round development, to help them continue to make progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children well. She makes regular observations of children's development and uses this information effectively. For example, she specifically identifies what children are interested in and uses this information to plan activities that they enjoy and to help them to achieve what they need to learn next. Young children enjoy moving their bodies in different ways to sounds as the childminder enthusiastically joins in their play. The childminder provides opportunities for young children to explore and make sense of objects and how they behave, for example, as they press different-sized buttons on toys and roll balls to each other, supporting their coordination skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps children to learn about the wider world. For example, she takes them on outings, such as to the local park. This helps to promote children's understanding of people who are different from themselves. This also helps contribute to their developing social and physical skills. Overall, the childminder establishes positive links with parents. She finds out about children's care routines and abilities when they start with her, to help her continue to build on children's learning further. Children are happy and form secure attachments with the childminder that are reinforced through warm interactions and cuddles. This helps support their emotional and physical well-being effectively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop good skills that prepare them well for their next stages of learning and their eventual move to nursery and school. Children are enthusiastic learners. They are eager to participate and make good progress from their starting points. Children are confident and willing to 'have a go', for example, as they use their water beaker themselves for the first time.
