This provision is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of children's individual stages of development and knows their interests well. She plans activities which they thoroughly enjoy. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder has effective procedures to follow to help new children settle in. She gathers robust information from parents and follows children's individual routines. Young children develop secure bonds with the childminder and her assistants. The childminder uses praise consistently to help children understand what they have done well. Children's behaviour is very good. They show a good understanding of the boundaries of the setting. The childminder has developed good partnerships with parents and other professionals. Parents are very happy with the range of activities provided and how the childminder involves them in their children's learning. This helps to promote continuity for children.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder helps children to be aware of the risks in the environment. Children are confident to demonstrate how to cross the road safely and show very good awareness of the dangers involved. This helps children to understand how to keep themselves safe.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently promote the highest levels of challenge for children. Some learning opportunities are not used effectively to extend learning. The childminder has not fully developed ways to enhance her own and her assistant's professional development.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant and children throughout the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the childminder's and her assistants' suitability to work with children. She discussed children's learning, assessment and planning with the childminder. The inspector obtained verbal and written feedback from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The qualified childminder regularly gathers feedback from parents and attends meetings to help drive forward improvements. For example, she has worked in partnership with the local authority to develop starting point assessments and track children's learning. This helps her to monitor the progress they make and identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder has started to complete supervisory sessions for her assistants. She ensures they understand the procedures to follow if they have concerns about children's welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her role to protect children from harm. She completes regular fire drills and risk assesses on a daily basis.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is skilled at responding to children's interests and plans exciting activities which cover every area of their learning, overall. For example, children enjoy exploring the nearby park with binoculars to search for bugs. Older children gain small physical skills and use tweezers to put the bugs in containers and develop their understanding of the world as they describe the different features. The childminder encourages young children to develop good communication and language skills as they name the bugs and make a picture of what they have seen. The childminder and her assistants complete observations of children's learning which are linked to their individual stages of development. This helps them to complete regular assessments of their progress which they share with parents and other settings, such as school.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to develop good levels of health, independence and self-care. For example, young children feed themselves and older children use the toilet with minimal support. Children are aware of the importance of washing their hands before they eat. They bring healthy packed lunches and the childminder promotes good table manners. The childminder sensitively helps new children to join in with activities and wear the high-visibility vests on outings for safety. This helps them to build good levels of self- confidence and understand the consistent behavioural expectations. The childminder helps children to develop respect and actively promotes inclusion. They regularly go on trips into their community and learn about other people and places.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children show enjoyment and enthusiasm in their activities and are keen to make choices about their learning. They work comfortably in the stages of development typically expected for their age. Young children develop very good social skills and confidence in new situations. Older children gain the skills they need to start school and are well- prepared for the move.
