This provision is good
The childminder has strong bonds with all children in her care. She is extremely responsive to their individual needs and works closely with parents to establish good care routines. For example, babies quickly go to sleep as they listen to calming music. Children's behaviour is good. Older children take responsibility for younger children and respond very positively to praise from the childminder. All children understand the childminder's expectations and follow routines well. For instance, babies help to tidy up and older children understand the need to play more quietly when babies sleep. The qualified and experienced childminder gets to know each individual child well. Children are happy and confident in the childminder's care and develop positive levels of emotional well-being. The childminder skilfully plays alongside children in their self-chosen activities and asks a good range of questions to support their problem-solving skills. For instance, she

supports them to build towers with blocks, demonstrates accurate counting and supports older children to understand the concept of one more as they build.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's plans for professional development are not sharply focused to support her to raise the quality of teaching to an outstanding level. On occasions, planned activities are not organised well enough to highly engage younger children and support them to make rapid progress in their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

focus plans for professional development even further to support ongoing improvements to the already good-quality of teaching ensure that planned activities are consistently well organised to fully engage younger children and support them to make even stronger progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of local safeguarding procedures and knows exactly what to do if she has a concern for a child's welfare. She has effective accident and incident procedures and supervises children well. The childminder completes daily risk assessments which help to promote children's safety. The childminder continually reflects on the service she provides and identifies areas for improvement. She works closely with parents and appreciates their feedback. She values their suggestions and uses them to inform her evaluation process. The childminder tracks the progress made by children well. This helps her to identify any gaps in their learning and take action accordingly. She works with a range of professionals to ensure all children's needs are met.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She has developed a safe and stimulating learning environment that supports all children's independence and choices when they play. For example, babies move with confidence around the main playroom and are able to find their favourite toys in the well-organised storage units. Overall, the childminder plans interesting activities to support children's good progress. For example, four-year-olds spend long periods exploring shaving foam. They demonstrate good physical skills when they use a range of tools to explore the foam and notice changes as they add different food colouring.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children show care and concern for one another. They learn to play cooperatively and the childminder successfully supports them to consider the feelings of others as they play. Children's physical health is promoted well. They enjoy balanced meals and healthy snacks. Children show a good understanding of good hygiene practice, such as when they wash their hands prior to eating lunch. They are developing secure levels of independence. Children enjoy a variety of visits to local community groups where they meet with other childminders and their children. This provides children with opportunities to socialise in larger groups and make new friendships.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children progress well from their starting points. They are inquisitive and motivated to learn. Children are confident communicators. They ask regular questions to consolidate their understanding. Children develop a range of skills that prepares them well for the next stage in their learning and the eventual move on to school. For example, four-year-olds write their names and talk to the childminder about the sounds that letters make.
