Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning and development. The inspector had a tour of the premises and viewed the resources available for the children. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including evidence of suitability. The inspector considered the written views of the parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She is enthusiastic and enjoys watching the children thrive in her care. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of how to protect children from harm and neglect. She knows whom to contact if she has any concerns or issues. The childminder is committed to continuous improvement. She has a good understanding of how to evaluate her practice and regularly makes improvements to the service she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder accurately monitors children's progress and uses their starting points to identify and address any gaps in learning. She knows the individual children well and quickly narrows any gaps in learning. This contributes to the good progress children make in their learning and development. The childminder gets down to children's level as they play and offers good help and guidance. For example, she models and demonstrates how to make the waterwheel go around. She fills the watering can and pours the water down the funnel, which the children quickly learn and copy. Children enjoy choosing their resources and leading their own play. The childminder encourages children to make decisions and think independently.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children positively thrive in the welcoming, homely environment. The childminder is attentive to their needs, which means children are happy and secure. The childminder supports children's physical health and well-being effectively. For example, children enjoy healthy, nutritious meals and snacks. The childminder supports good hygiene practices. For example, the children know to wash their hands before snack. They have daily access to fresh air and develop good physical skills. For example, they push the wheeled toys around the garden and dig in the sandpit. The childminder skilfully encourages children's road safety awareness, such as on outings, where children know to look and listen for cars. She also uses the toy car and roads to demonstrate road safety during play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are inquisitive and enjoy exploring the resources. They develop good self-esteem and are proud of their achievements. Children access a wide range of age-appropriate resources and engage in a selection of interesting learning experiences. Children learn to make marks. For example, they paint dinosaurs using the water and paintbrushes. This helps support their fine motor skills and early writing skills. All children gain the key skills needed for the next stage in their learning.
