This provision is good

 The childminder has made significant improvements since the last inspection to address all weaknesses. She now ensures all checks are in place for her assistants. In addition, all hazards to children have been removed and she now monitors her own and her assistants practice to raise the quality of her setting.  Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder provides a welcoming and very well-resourced environment. Children access a wide range of toys which challenges and motivates them to learn.  The childminder promotes an enjoyment of songs. A music teacher visits weekly. Together, they join in with high levels of enthusiasm to fully engage children and help them to learn the words and signing actions.  A good settling-in procedure is agreed with parents. This helps children to feel emotionally secure at the onset of care. Children are happy and settled. Relationships

between the childminder, her assistants and the children are very good.  The childminder makes regular, accurate observations and monitors the progress children make. She quickly identifies any areas in children's learning and development where they need support and makes plans to close these gaps.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, the childminder does things for children that they could manage themselves which does not fully support their growing independence.  The childminder has not yet fully implemented her planned evaluation process to identify how she can raise the quality of her setting to the highest possible level.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make the most of all opportunities for children to learn to do things for themselves and support their growing independence  focus self-evaluation more sharply in identifying ways of raising the overall quality of the provision to the highest level.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children as they played, listened to their interactions and talked with them at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder and her assistants in relation to observations of children's play, learning and progress.  The inspector sampled documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures and evidence of suitability checks and training.  The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's house and garden used for the care of children.  The inspector spoke to a parent and took account of her views about the setting.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is a qualified social worker and along with her assistants is very confident in all aspects of child protection. They are aware of the duty to prevent children from being drawn into situations that may put them at risk of significant harm. The childminder diligently checks her home to ensure that it is safe for children to use. The childminder and her assistants plan together to meet the care and learning needs of the children. She monitors the work of her assistants well, providing them with guidance and training to ensure they understand their role and responsibilities. The childminder recognises the need to update and refresh her skills and knowledge and that of her assistants. Parents are positive about the care their children receive. They state, for example, that children are happy and they are well informed about the progress their children make. Partnerships with others sharing the care of children are well established.

p.3

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

These enable the childminder to offer consistency for the care and learning children receive elsewhere.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts with children warmly and confidently. She demonstrates a clear understanding of children's interests and next steps. Children are engaged and motivated in their play and learning. They stay focused and show good concentration as they complete challenging puzzles and explore the texture of shaving foam. They talk about the ice melting and getting smaller. The childminder takes children on regular outings and they attend toddler groups and a care home where they sing and play musical instruments. These develop their social skills and give them access to a wider range of resources and activities. Children have good opportunities to practise early writing, for example, as they make marks with crayons and their fingers in the foam. She builds positive partnerships with parents and encourages them to share information about their children's learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are well behaved and use good manners. Older children are positive role models for younger children and join in with their play and demonstrate a genuine respect for them. Children follow good hygiene routines. They enjoy a wide range of nutritious home- cooked meals and healthy snacks, and water is readily available for children to access. The childminder supports children's physical health and well-being. Children benefit from daily outdoor play and regularly visit local parks. She teaches them how to stay safe, for example, by reminding them to sit on their chairs safely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning. They develop a range of skills in preparation for the next stage of their learning. They are confident, happy and eager to learn. Children join in with singing activities with high levels of enthusiasm and ask to sing favourite songs. Younger children babble along excitedly and attempt to do the actions. Older children remember the words and actions and are confident to sing and sign.
