This provision is good
The childminder is caring, sensitive and skilled in helping children to feel settled and to form secure emotional attachments. This in turn helps to nurture their independence, confidence and overall well-being. The childminder observes and assesses children on a regular basis, she uses this information well to plan interesting and challenging activities based on children's interests and current stage of development. As a result, children are motivated to make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder implements a good range of policies and procedures and regularly assesses risks. This helps her to care for children in a safe and secure environment and to quickly identify any potential hazards. The childminder is a good role model who provides clear and consistent guidance for children's behaviour. She teaches children about acceptable behaviour and supports them in learning how to share, take turns and respect each other's feelings.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Strategies to share information about children's learning and development with other settings they attend are not firmly established. The childminder has not fully implemented an ambitious training programme to enhance the good-quality care and learning provided so that children make the best possible progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed play and learning opportunities for children and undertook a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to children and held a number of discussions with the childminder. The inspector viewed areas of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector reviewed relevant documentation, including the suitability of household members, children's learning records and a sample of policies and procedures. The inspector discussed self-evaluation and how the views of parents and children are included to drive improvement.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of her role and responsibilities with regards to safeguarding children and keeping them safe. She is fully aware of the potential signs of abuse and neglect and she understands the procedures for reporting concerns. The childminder reviews her provision and demonstrates a clear commitment to improving her practice. The childminder helps to prepare children well for school. For example, when children leave her provision, the childminder shares a summary of children's stages of development to support a smooth move into mainstream education.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children make good progress in their communication and language skills. They constantly chatter and engage in conversation with the childminder. The childminder listens carefully to children and repeats words back to them to aid their pronunciation. Children have an individual learning records that details their starting points, ongoing progress and next steps. This information helps the childminder to identify where children are in their learning and where they need further support. Children's ongoing progress and development are effectively shared with parents. Good, ongoing communication helps the childminder and parents work together well to meet children's needs. Children have the opportunity to develop sensory skills, for instance, as they explore sand. The childminder skilfully uses this opportunity to talk about different colours and develop children's knowledge and understanding as they play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder plans in a wide range of activities to support children's physical development. Visits to parks and to feed the ducks, as well as opportunities to use large wheeled vehicles outside, help support the development of large-muscle skills. The childminder helps children make healthy choices about food and encourages them to do things for themselves. For example, children choose from a variety of fruit at snack time and peel and chop their fruit up independently. The childminder assists younger children when necessary. Children learn to plant and grow vegetables, which helps them to understand where food comes from.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in all areas of their development. They develop their early writing skills as they enjoy using chalks to make marks on the ground outside. Children learn to complete simple tasks by themselves, such as clearing resources away before they go outside to play. They use good personal hygiene skills as they learn how to care for themselves, such as when washing their hands. Children learn key skills in readiness for their move on to nursery or school.
