The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands what would constitute a safeguarding concern and the crucial importance of reporting any concerns she may have. She attends regular training to update her knowledge and skills to help her ensure children are kept safe. Children are supervised closely and the childminder provides a safe environment to reduce the risk of accidents or incidents. The childminder regularly discusses ideas with other professionals to help improve children's experiences and leaning outcomes. Written testimonials demonstrate the high regard that parents have for the childminder.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans exciting and challenging activities and is fully involved in children's play. She encourages children to 'have a go' and have confidence in their abilities. She engages them well and plans purposefully to support their individual learning needs. For example, she encourages children to count as they collect mini plastic frogs in scoops during water play, extending their identified next steps in mathematics. Children count with increasing accuracy. The childminder promotes communication and language skills through relaxed conversations as children play. She uses effective questioning to help build on their growing vocabulary. Children have fun as they learn and enjoy singing, stories, giggles and laughter, in a relaxed environment that they are confident to explore.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children demonstrate that they feel happy and secure in the childminder's company and they enjoy her reassuring hugs and smiles. Children benefit from the good amount of praise and encouragement offered by the childminder, which helps to support their sense of self-esteem. The childminder organises trips to museums and parks to enhance their learning further about the wider world. The childminder successfully promotes healthy lifestyles. Children benefit from good opportunities to gain fresh air and exercise daily and they are encouraged to wash their hands before eating healthy snacks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress in all areas of learning and working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. They are developing the skills that they need for their eventual move on to school. They develop independence and manage tasks efficiently for themselves. For example, children independently find their own aprons for water play and cut up their own fruit at snack times. Children can follow instructions with increasing complexity and are successful learners.
