This provision is good
The childminder is experienced and well qualified. She uses her good teaching skills and knowledge of how young children learn to provide a broad range of interesting activities. This helps children make good progress towards the early learning goals in readiness for school. The childminder provides a warm and welcoming home environment, in which children play and learn. Children are keen and active learners who enjoy making choices about what they would like to play with. This supports their enjoyment and achievement very effectively. Children's behaviour is good. The childminder is a good role model who helps children learn how to behave towards others and share and take turns. Children receive praise for their achievements and this boosts their confidence and self-esteem. Partnerships with parents work well. Parents are encouraged to share information about children's learning and development at home. The childminder knows the children well

and skilfully meets their individual needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully developed assessment routines to help check on the progress of children's learning more closely. The childminder does not find out as much as possible from parents about what children already know and can do to support their learning from the outset.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
improve assessment routines further to help identify where children might make quicker progress in their learning seek more detailed information from parents about children's capabilities when they first start.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outside and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of relevant documentation with regards to children's welfare and safety, including evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents from information provided in written references on the day of inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very clear understanding of her role in keeping children safe. She demonstrates her good knowledge of the possible signs of abuse and neglect to keep children safe from the risk of harm. The childminder undertakes training to enhance her understanding of the wider risks to children across the child protection remit. She knows how to identify and minimise risks to children without limiting opportunities for their development. The childminder constantly reviews her practice and attends training to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. Parents are very complimentary about the provision, including the variety of activities. They say their children, 'Love attending and are in safe hands'.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder encourages children to play, explore and investigate resources to help them achieve. She observes children as they play and uses this information to build on their learning effectively. There is strong focus on promoting children's communication and language skills. The childminder constantly encourages children to speak and learn new words. Children listen well to stories and sing action songs. Children learn about life cycles and closely observe changes in tadpoles. They use their senses as they touch and feel different objects, such as a sponge, balls and shaker bottles. Children play with sensory bags and use their fingers to move the contents around, such as beans and bananas. They delight while trying to catch and pop bubbles.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder successfully promotes children's sense of achievement as they learn through play. The childminder is friendly and has a lovely rapport with the children. She follows a regular routine and this helps children feel safe and secure. Young children enjoy exploring the environment; they are confident in her care and develop a strong sense of belonging. This supports their emotional well-being very effectively. Children's physical health and development are good. They enjoy freshly prepared healthy meals and have good opportunities to play outdoors. Children take part in a range of outings to local shops, a soft-play centre and parks. This provides them with opportunities to find out about the local community, socialise with other children and learn about road safety. Parents are provided with feedback each day with information about their child's care, well-being and achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and develop the skills to help them when they move to school. They develop mathematical and literacy skills appropriate to their age of development. Children become active and independent learners. They begin to understand about the needs of others and develop respect and positive relationships with their peers.
