This provision is good
Overall, the childminder builds effective partnerships with parents and carers. She communicates with them regularly about their children's experiences and progress. Parents compliment and value the quality of care and support that she provides. Children benefit greatly from having access to a stimulating, well-resourced learning environment. They are motivated and eager to 'have a go' and try different experiences. Children progress well, confidently explore and learn to make independent choices in their play. The childminder is very warm and caring with the children. She knows when to join in with their play and uses praise and encouragement effectively. Children develop an understanding of danger and they know how to keep themselves safe. For example, they learn road safety while out walking in the local area with the childminder.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder establishes positive relationships with parents, she does not gather information about children's achievements at home from the outset. At times, the childminder misses opportunities to encourage children to do achievable things for themselves to extend their independence skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector spoke to parents and took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of how to identify and report any concerns about the welfare of children in her care. She has broadened her understanding of wider safeguarding issues, such as protecting children from extreme views and behaviour. The environment is checked on a daily basis to make sure it remains a safe place for children to play in. The childminder maintains a good overview of children's progress, enabling her to quickly identify any gaps in their learning. She reflects on her practice and makes changes to enhance her service further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her observations to make accurate assessments of children's learning and to plan what they need to learn next. She interacts well with children and takes every opportunity to encourage their conversations. For example, at snack time, children talk about their recent visit to the park to feed the ducks, the food ducks eat and the noises they make. Children's early literacy skills are encouraged in a variety of ways. For example, while using play dough and shapes, children enthusiastically tell the childminder when they identify letters in their own name. The childminder recognises when to stand back to enable children to lead their own learning. For example, children using small toy people and vehicles initiate their own play. They give a running commentary as they describe what is happening, skilfully moving resources around to bring their stories to life.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are exceptionally well supported to become self-assured learners. The childminder provides plenty of praise and encouragement to help develop children's confidence and sense of self-esteem. Children's behaviour is very good. They understand the childminder's high expectations of them. For example, children happily help to tidy toys away. Children are skilled at sharing and show a clear understanding of the need to respect others. For example, when children join in play already taking place, they are welcomed and encouraged to share in the resources. Children play outdoors regularly and benefit from good opportunities to be physically active. Children learn to keep themselves safe, for example, they know to wear a hat and to have regular drinks when they are outside in the sun.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress and enjoy learning. Children are eager to join in with activities and concentrate for long periods, relative to their age. They show enthusiasm when practising their mark-making skills as they create pictures with chalks. They are confident when meeting new visitors to the childminder's home. Children develop a range of skills that helps to prepare them for their future learning and for school.
