This provision is good
The childminder is calm yet energetic; she encourages children's engagement and plans activities based on their current interests. This helps children to develop a positive relationship with the childminder. The childminder understands her role and responsibilities. She is committed to her professional development and accesses training regularly to further strengthen her knowledge and skills. This helps her plan continual improvements to provide a good- quality provision. The childminder gives children lots of praise and encouragement during play. Children are confident and develop good independence skills. Children have a good understanding of the local community. They relish opportunities to visit local parks and libraries and take part in community events.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide many opportunities for children to explore and experiment with a range of natural materials and resources. The childminder has not fully considered how to help children make as much progress as possible in their speaking skills. The childminder does not consistently seek precise information from parents to gain an understanding of what children can already do when they first start.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outside and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at children's learning records and planning. The inspector took account of the written feedback provided by parents during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe and she knows what to do should she have concerns about a child's welfare. Children are well protected. For example, the childminder completes regular risk assessments and ensures the childcare areas are secure. The childminder encourages older children to consider hazards and risks in many ways. For example, she uses opportunities for walks to school as a chance to discuss road safety and inspire children to consider their own safety. The childminder has a clear focus for the future development of her setting; she has employed an assistant and planned further training to increase their skills and improve outcomes for children. The childminder regularly monitors the progress children make and shares this with parents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans activities based on children's interests and supports their learning as they play. She provides a narrative to encourage children's involvement and extend possible learning outcomes. She completes regular observations of children's participation in planned activities. Children develop an early awareness of mathematical concepts. For example, while pouring water through funnels and filling contains and beakers the childminder talks about volume and number. The childminder encourages children to solve problems. For example, she challenges children to find the correct shape to sort according to colour, shape and position. The childminder ensures she is always nearby to prevent children from becoming frustrated and helps them to achieve the task in hand. Children learn about the world around them. They visit parks and local activities with the childminder and benefit from socialising within larger groups during planned activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming and friendly environment for children. Children behave well and demonstrate that they are very fond of the childminder. The childminder takes time to speak with children during their play and when tending to their care needs. The childminder praises children for their efforts and achievements and these are shared with families daily. This helps to promote children's self-esteem and confidence. Children are provided with many opportunities to develop healthy lifestyles. For example, they enjoy playing with a wide range of physical equipment in the outdoor play space and are provided with healthy snacks and meals. The childminder provides children with choices about the snacks provided, she works with families to provide the evening meal at a suitable time for all.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children work within the expected range of development. Children are provided with many opportunities to make choices and they are encouraged to 'have a go' as they try new experiences. They gain skills that prepare them well for their future learning, including the move to school.
