This provision is good
Since registration, the childminder has developed an effective reflective approach. This results in her making considered changes to her activity to ensure she continues to meet the needs of all the children attending. Children benefit from the childminder's consistent approach and her good teaching skills. She plays alongside children, actively promoting their communication and language skills. She uses descriptive language to extend children's vocabulary and she encourages babies to be vocal and make noises. Children show a clear attachment to the childminder. They are confident in her home and are familiar with the daily routines. Children approach her for comfort and reassurance as and when they need it and they readily settle when it is time for their nap. Parents are happy with the childminder's service. They comment on the good progress their children make and about the good range of activities the childminder provides.
p.1
This provision is good
Children are safe in the childminder's home. She supervises them well allowing them to explore and be curious in her safe environment.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Very young children have fewer opportunities to enjoy photographs and stories about themselves, their family and other familiar people. On occasion, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities that arise during activities to promote children's deeper thinking.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during a range of activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of adults living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands how to implement her policy for child protection in the event of concerns about a child's welfare. She carries out risk assessments of her home and garden, taking steps that contribute to children's safety. The childminder has a good understanding of how to support children's learning. She plans interesting and enjoyable activities for them that widen their experiences and contribute to the progress they make. The childminder sets herself high standards and is keen to continue to improve her service. She is keen to continue to extend her knowledge and she has completed some further training. She identifies well- targeted plans for the future development of her business.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy the childminder's enthusiastic involvement in their play. She is skilled in her teaching. Children respond positively to her as she talks to them about what they are doing and helps them to solve problems they encounter. For example, she encourages older toddlers to put small toy cars on a track correctly so they freely roll down. She supports babies to use their fingers to turn a button to make a toy pop up. Children smile broadly at the childminder, asking to do it again and giggle with delight when they are successful. The childminder is effective in finding out children's starting points. She works closely with parents from the start, valuing information they provide from home. She makes observations, assesses children's progress and uses the information to plan a good range of activities to help them make progress towards their identified next steps.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a gentle and reassuring approach with children and this helps them to quickly settle into her home. Children are very familiar with the daily routines. They know when it is time to wash their hands for snack and get ready for nappy changes and sleep times. Children are learning about the expectations for behaviour because the childminder follows a clear and consistent approach. She develops effective partnerships with the local school to ensure children have a successful transition. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles. She helps very young children wash their hands before meals and provides a good balance of food for snacks and meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They are learning to share and work together, and they make independent choices about the toys they play with. They are developing skills that help ensure they are prepared for the next stage in their learning and for the move on to school.
