This provision is good

 The childminder successfully establishes working relationships with parents, schoolteachers and assistants, to help further complement children's care and learning.  Children enjoy their time with the childminder and their friends after school. They help themselves to a good range of toys and resources, and choose which activities they want to join in.  The childminder encourages children to be physically active. Children develop control over their bodies as they play games and use apparatus in the childminder's garden. They enjoy further physical challenges at the park, such as balancing and climbing.  The childminder helps children to understand the importance of their own personal safety. For example, children learn about road safety and stranger danger.  Since the last inspection, the childminder has continued to build on her good knowledge and skills, for example, by attending training courses and the local

 continue to build on the ways for children and parents to offer their views and suggestions to support even further improvement in the provision.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children engaged in activities in the childminder's home and in the garden.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at children's records and planning, and discussed the childminder's policies and procedures.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with current legislation, particularly in relation to child protection, to safeguard children. She is fully aware of the signs to look out for, and the procedures to follow, if she has a concern about a child's welfare. Parents provide the childminder with a lot of information about their children when they first start and this helps her to plan and provide activities of current interest to the children. Parents' comments at inspection indicate that they are very happy with the service the children receive. For example, they find the childminder very approachable and professional, and are reassured by her experience, knowledge and skills in childcare.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides attractive and inviting environments, indoors and outdoors, for children to play and relax after school. Children play happily together during a game of football and they successfully negotiate and take turns to shoot at the goal. They are very confident speakers and they clearly express their thoughts and ideas. Children extend their good mathematical skills as they participate in games they enjoy. For example, they add and subtract as they catch numbered ducks in the water tray and recognise numbers as they play bingo. Children build on their creativity as they participate in arts and crafts, and enjoy dancing to music. They use their imaginations when dressing up as superheroes and playing with dolls.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a very good role model. Children are well behaved and they have good manners. They are proud of their achievements and celebrate their successes, for example, as they win imaginative trophies. Children learn to be kind and care for living things, such as when caring for the childminder's rabbits. They have a strong sense of belonging and they know where to put their personal belongings when they return from school. Children continue to build on their independence skills, for instance, as they select toys and resources to play with and help prepare healthy snacks for their friends. Children gain an awareness of and observe similarities and differences as they participate in and learn about different festivals, such as Chinese New Year. They form close relationships with the childminder and her family, and they build on their friendships after school.
