This provision is good
The childminder is dedicated. She continually strives to provide a high-quality service. Precise self-evaluation procedures help the childminder to understand strengths and areas to develop. The childminder is motivated and driven to improve. The childminder creates a well-organised and stimulating learning environment for children indoors and outside. Children remain consistently engrossed and have fun as they learn. The quality of teaching to support language and communication skills is particularly strong. The childminder engages in a variety of strategies to develop children's language skills. For instance, ongoing narration, open questions, repetition and discussion all contribute to children's good speech. The childminder routinely observes and monitors children's achievements. She identifies what children need to learn next and plans activities to support development. Children make good progress.
p.1
This provision is good
Children behave well. The childminder encourages children to use their good manners and respect each other. Children are polite and considerate.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder builds good relationships with parents. However, when children first start attending, the childminder does not gather detailed information from parents to help her rapidly understand children's abilities. This prevents her from providing tailored learning right from the very beginning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
extend information obtained from parents, relating to children's abilities and provide tailored learning to fully support children's development from the outset.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Children's safety is given the upmost priority. The childminder has recently completed safeguarding refresher training. Furthermore, she has attended additional training, above mandatory requirements, associated with the 'Prevent' duty and female genital mutilation. The childminder has detailed knowledge of how to identify and report concerns relating to child protection, if these arise. This promotes children's welfare. The childminder builds strong and effective links with other professionals. For instance, she regularly meets with other childminders to discuss good practice and share ideas. She proactively communicates with teachers from local schools. Professional dialogue helps the childminder to extend her knowledge and good practice even further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is an attentive role model. She gets down to children's level, uses eye contact and actively participates in their games. Her interactions help to extend children's learning. For instance, children are encouraged to fill buckets and containers and make sand castles. Children develop physical coordination, concentration and dexterity as they scoop sand. The childminder skilfully incorporates children's interests into games and activities. This helps to ignite children's curiosity and enjoyment in their learning. For instance, children excitedly play with toy trucks. Children are encouraged to push toy trucks down a slide. Children count as they anticipate the movement and discuss toys travelling fast, slow, long and short distances. This helps children to develop their thinking, problem-solving and mathematical skills as they play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is generous, friendly and kind. Children are happy and relaxed in her care. She provides genuine, reassuring encouragement to help to build children's confidence. Children are self-assured and resilient. For instance, with gentle encouragement and close supervision, children persevere and successfully climb a steep ladder to access a slide. Children sustain concentration and develop a sense of self-worth when they succeed. Children learn about how to keep themselves safe. For instance, they discuss the importance of remaining seated when eating, to minimise the risk of choking and check water temperature prior to washing their hands, demonstrating an understanding of personal welfare. Children enjoy a range of trips and outings. Children develop social skills as they mix with children of different ages at local toddler groups.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well supported and make good progress from their starting points. Children are confident and eager to learn. They acquire skills to prepare them for the next stage in their learning and the eventual move to school. Children demonstrate good physical skills. They run, jump, climb and balance with ease. Children are inquisitive. They ask questions, solve problems and approach challenge with a positive attitude.
