This provision is good

 The childminder is ambitious and highly motivated to help improve achievements for all children in her care.  The childminder effectively evaluates the provision and includes the views of parents and children to help her identify areas for further improvement. For example, she has enhanced opportunities for children to explore the natural world and how insects live.  The childminder is highly effective at supporting children's early communication and language skills. For example, she clearly emphasises key words during her interactions, to help children build on their understanding and speaking skills.  The childminder takes time to get to know the children, who feel safe and secure in a welcoming environment. Children form close attachments with the caring childminder.  Partnerships with parents are good. Parents value the bonds the childminder has with their children. They work together to provide good-quality care and early education for

children.  All children make good progress in their learning from their starting points.

p.1

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The organisation of the premises is very well managed. The childminder has dedicated play space in her home and provides a great range of activities and learning opportunities for children. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date, for example, through training, to help improve her practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder identifies potential risks in the environment and addresses these while helping the children to gain a good awareness of how to play in safety. She has a good understanding of the child protection procedures to follow and she is fully aware of how to report any issues.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of how children learn and develop. She tracks children's progress well to address gaps in their learning promptly and plans stimulating activities based on children's interests and next steps in learning. The childminder understands what children can do and how she can further support their good development. For example, while children enjoy exploring a range of activities in the garden, the childminder challenges their physical skills, such as reaching the top of the small hill in the garden to use the ball run. She encourages them to enhance their balance and coordination skills to climb the mound safely and with confidence. She effectively encourages children's mathematical skills. For instance, she encourages them to count the balls down the run and explore concepts such as more and less.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder maintains a welcoming and stimulating environment in which children are happy, settled and keen to explore. She gives children plenty of praise and encouragement, which helps to boost their self-esteem and confidence. Children are well behaved and have a good understanding of sharing and taking turns. They develop a good awareness of the need for a healthy lifestyle. Children enjoy nutritious snacks and the childminder reinforces the benefits of making healthy food choices.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children develop a good understanding of diversity beyond their immediate family. For example, the environment has positive cultural images, books and role-play resources for children to access. Children are well prepared for their next stage of education or their move on to school. They enjoy engaging in early handwriting opportunities. For instance, children enjoy using a range of tools to make marks within their play experiences. Children enjoy visits to the local park and gain a good sense of the local community and enhance their physical skills well.
