This provision is good
Children thrive in the childminder's care. She successfully meets children's individual care needs. Children show through their behaviour that they feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. Children relish being active and delight in playing outdoors. They enjoy visiting places of interest and local parks and being physically active. They learn to use equipment safely and develop confidence, control and coordination using different climbing apparatus and wheeled toys. Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents speak highly of the high level of care and learning opportunities the childminder provides. These effectively support the childminder's continued self-evaluation. The childminder encourages good behaviour and encourages children to share and take turns. She praises children's efforts and achievements and builds their confidence and self-esteem well. The childminder works harmoniously with other early years settings that children

attend. This helps to support children and ensures continuity in their care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently make the most of professional development opportunities to further develop her already good practice. Information gathered from parents when children start does not fully include parents' contributions about what their children can already do.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

engage in available continuous professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and raise teaching skills to an even higher level enhance the arrangements for gathering information from parents when children first start, and use this to help plan for children's future learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outside and assessed the impact it has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at required documentation. The inspector discussed the childminder's processes for self-evaluation and checked evidence of the suitability of adults living in the home. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has well-written policies and procedures that reflect her ethos of care and are shared with parents. She assesses all areas of the home and garden to ensure children remain safe. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of the signs that may indicate a child is at risk. She fully understands to whom she should report any concerns. The childminder enjoys daily discussions with parents and informs them about their children's day. She continually evaluates her own practice and identifies ways she can enhance her provision even further.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are very happy and relaxed in this stimulating environment. They confidently move around the areas available and choose when they wish to play outdoors, following their interests. Children re-enact familiar, known experiences. For example, they enjoy caring for the dolls, as they dress them, change their nappies and pretend to feed them. The childminder captures children's attention and effectively supports their love of books. Children show high levels of concentration as they solve problems. For example, they work out how to change the shape of a ball into a disc they can throw across the garden. The childminder continually observes, assesses and plans for the next steps in children's learning. She effectively monitors children's learning and works alongside parents to complete the progress check for children aged between two and three years to review their development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's independence is supported well. They confidently help to prepare for their snack and place the plates and cups onto the picnic rug outdoors. They choose which fruit they would like to eat and talk about why the fruit is good for their bodies. The childminder supports children well as they build their confidence. For example, she gives younger children time and space to overcome their anxieties as they manage age-appropriate risks, such as the low steps into the garden. Older children manage their own personal care needs well and the childminder ensures younger children complete developmental milestones, such as toilet training. Younger children rest and sleep according to their needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and they develop the skills needed for future learning. They show confidence and persevere with tasks. They express their ideas and develop good communication and language skills. Children confidently count. For example, they count how many different pieces of food an insect can eat before feeling full-up. They develop their fine muscle skills and hand-to-eye coordination as they carefully pour sand into different sized containers.
