This provision is good
Children are happy, secure and settled with the childminder. She places a strong emphasis on children's personal, social and emotional needs, their physical skills and their communication and language development. Children establish close relationships with the childminder. They learn to use good manners, behave well and have good levels of confidence and self-esteem. The enthusiastic childminder accurately evaluates the effectiveness of her childminding service and obtains the views of parents. This helps her to make continuous improvements to her childminding service. The childminder promotes children's good health and physical development effectively. They enjoy nutritious meals and healthy snacks. They have opportunities to spend time outdoors each day and enjoy visits to local parks and places of interest.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use her assessments of children's learning precisely enough to address the next steps in their development to help them to make better than good progress. The childminder does not gather enough information from parents about children's prior learning and abilities on entry.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records and planning and discussed the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible signs of abuse and procedures to follow if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments of the environments used by children to help keep them safe and secure. The childminder is keen and enthusiastic. She reflects on her own practice and identifies areas for further development. The childminder extends her knowledge and skills, for example, by attending training, reading articles and working with other childminding colleagues effectively. The childminder completes a report showing children's progress between the ages of two and three years. She shares this information with parents and health professionals to promote children's good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how children learn and progress. She tracks children's progress effectively. This helps her to quickly identify and close any gaps in children's learning. The childminder plays alongside children and talks to them, helping to develop their communication and language skills. The childminder provides them with opportunities to develop their hand-to-eye coordination. Children select puzzle pieces and independently turn them until they fit. The childminder follows children's interests. She reads them a story about sheep and asks children to hunt for other animals in the room. Children demonstrate good listening skills and follow the story well. They quack like a duck and take turns to press the sheep noise button on the story. This helps younger children to develop their physical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have many opportunities to develop an understanding of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. For example, they eat healthily, follow good hygiene routines and enjoy a wider range of activities and learn about living things, for example, at the park and farm. The childminder provides children with opportunities to learn about their local community. She takes children to parent and toddler groups. These encourage children to make relationships with others, helping to develop their social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those in receipt of funding, make good progress in their learning. Children form strong emotional bonds with the kind and caring childminder. Children press buttons on electronic toys and enjoy listening to the sounds they make. This helps them to learn about technology. Children learn key skills for their future learning.
