This provision is good
The childminder provides very good support for children's communication and language skills. This was an area for improvement at her last inspection. This has been thoroughly addressed and is now a strong area of teaching. Children quickly build on their vocabulary and are confident to contribute to conversations. The childminder has very good settling-in procedures. She uses children's interests well to support and engage them as they arrive for the day. As a result, children who have struggled to settle elsewhere quickly feel comfortable and secure. The childminder demonstrates a sound understanding of the importance of partnership working with other settings, agencies and professionals. She is proactive in working with parents to support any potential needs or learning delays of children. The childminder has completed a range of training courses about different aspects of child protection. As a result, she has a good knowledge of how to identify and manage

any concerns about the children in her care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not provide the greatest level of challenge during activities to help children to always make the best possible progress. Overall, although the childminder establishes good partnerships with parents, she does not consistently encourage them to share information about children's learning at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

take every opportunity to provide the highest level of challenge that helps children to make even better progress in their learning develop further the partnership with parents to gather more contributions of learning from home to inform children's assessments.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed joint evaluations of activities with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of training. She discussed the procedures for evaluation and the priorities for improvement with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has undertaken thorough research on changes to data protection regulations to safely manage the information she gathers. She has updated her policy and shared this information with parents to keep them up to date. The childminder constantly assesses her premises to manage and minimise any risks or hazards to children's safety. She is continually reflecting on how she does things and how she can improve. She makes appropriate use of support from her early years consultant to help improve her practice. She shares information with other childcare professionals to keep up to date with changes.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a good range of well-planned activities. For example, she provides different tools and resources for children to use as they play with pasta to support their mathematical and physical development. She models language so that children learn how to use words in the right context. As children listen to stories, they recognise familiar phrases and finish the ending of sentences. The childminder is keen that children should enjoy activities and she plans to support their learning through their interests. She is effective in observing children during their play so that she can find out what they already know and can do. The childminder provides useful information for parents so that they know how to support particular aspects of learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Parents describe the childminder as kind, calm and patient. Her friendly and relaxed demeanour helps children to develop a strong attachment to her. The childminder has positive house rules that help children to build relationships with others. She continually gives children a choice about what they do, such as when they have their snack. She also consistently encourages children to do things for themselves, for example, taking off their wellington boots. This effective support helps children to develop independence and confidence with decision making. The childminder provides a good range of activities to help children to develop an understanding of a healthy lifestyle. For example, she encourages them to choose what they feel is an appropriate snack from their lunchbox.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good, and in some aspects of their learning, such as their social skills, very good progress. Parents comment on the progress their children make and particularly on their interactions with others. Children have good levels of independence in their self-care skills. They persevere at tasks and take pride in their accomplishments. Children are developing the skills they need for school.
