This provision is good
The childminder reflects well on her practice and uses her qualification and professional development opportunities well to continually improve the provision for children. The childminder works well with parents and providers of other settings, to share information and meet children's care and learning needs. The childminder is a good role model who encourages children to learn good manners and become respectful and well-behaved young people. She nurtures children's unique personalities well and helps them to develop good levels of emotional well-being. Overall, the childminder provides children with stimulating activities and resources that they enjoy exploring. She monitors children's development well, to ensure all children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder occasionally misses the chance to extend children's interest in songs and rhymes, to further encourage their enjoyment of these activities. The childminder does not take all opportunities to say and reinforce new words for children to learn and use, to further extend their language abilities.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector and the childminder looked around the areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector sampled documents and records, including policies and procedures, and information about children's learning. The inspector and the childminder jointly evaluated the effectiveness of an activity. The inspector took parents' views into consideration through their written comments. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at convenient times throughout the visit.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has used recent training updates well to refresh her understanding of child protection issues. She understands the procedures to follow in the event of any concerns and how to seek help in the event of an emergency that could compromise children's safety. She uses risk assessment well to minimise any hazards to children's safety. She helps children to learn about managing risks and staying safe, for example, as they move around and play within her home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children to become curious and work things out as they learn new skills. For example, she helps them to learn about matching and sorting toy dinosaurs into different categories. She asks children interesting questions, such as 'how many have you got?' and 'are there as many red ones as purple ones?' as children sort and compare quantities. The childminder comments on children's actions, for instance, as they engage in role play and pretend to cook pasta. The childminder effectively helps children to learn about the world around them. They engage in prolonged conversations, for instance, about the weather, their interests, and their families and the jobs they do.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder forms warm bonds with children to help them feel settled and secure. She has a kind and gentle approach to helping children develop a positive sense of self and tolerance towards others. For example, she carefully explains to older children why very young ones just take away the toys with which they are playing. She explains that they are still learning and exploring, and do not yet know about sharing. Children listen to her explanations, play cooperatively together and behave very well. They develop good social skills, for instance, as they talk about how to tidy away the toys and negotiate their ideas in role play. They become increasingly independent as they visit the toilet and manage everyday tasks for themselves. Children learn about healthy eating and learn why fruit, such as blueberries and strawberries, is good for them.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy being with each other as they play together and progress equally well. They explore the resources confidently and are motivated to make choices in their play. They show that they feel they belong and develop good levels of self-assurance as they freely talk about their experiences. Children use their small hand and finger muscles to pick things up, and fit objects together as part of developing their early writing skills. They recreate real experiences through role play and using small-world resources. Children laugh and interact well with each other and show a keen interest in all they do. They develop good attitudes towards learning.
