This provision is good
Partnerships with parents are secure. The childminder communicates effectively with parents to help ensure that both parties are fully aware of children's progress and development, including any changing needs. The childminder provides a very positive and nurturing environment for children. She is kind and caring, and children form close bonds with her. Children are happy, secure and motivated to learn. The childminder regularly takes children on outings into the community. This helps children to build friendships with other children, develop good social skills and learn about the local community. The childminder follows children's interests well. She knows how individual children prefer to learn and what they like to do. The childminder monitors children's development well to ensure they make good progress in all areas of learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder misses some opportunities to introduce children to mathematical ideas, in particular to build their awareness of size and measurement. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend children's understanding of the importance of hygiene, to support their good health.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector took account of the views of parents through reading the written feedback provided. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at a selection of relevant documentation. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector and the childminder evaluated the effectiveness of an activity together.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her role in protecting children from harm and neglect. She is fully aware of the process she must follow if she has any concerns about children in her care. The childminder further supports children's safety by completing regular risk assessments for the home and outings. She reflects on her practice to continually make improvements to the quality of her service. Parents report that they feel very secure leaving their children at the setting and of the high-quality care and education their children receive. The childminder keeps her childcare knowledge up to date, for instance, through talking and discussing good practice with other local childminders.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She regularly assesses children's progress and uses this information to provide children with suitable challenges. The childminder plans activities that take into account children's next steps in learning. She helps children to learn about numbers. For example, she encourages children to count the number of cake cases during a cooking activity. Younger children particularly enjoy mixing the cake mixture, and they confidently use a spoon to fill the cake cases. The childminder supports children in learning new vocabulary, for instance, through repeating words clearly and precisely.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gathers information from parents before children attend, which helps her to successfully meet their individual needs. She ensures children take daily exercise in the fresh air. For example, children walk to and from school, and visit nearby parks and woodlands. The childminder promotes healthy eating, for instance, she presents fruit and vegetables attractively to entice children to eat a wide variety. The childminder supports children in becoming independent in their self-help skills. Children independently choose toys and resources with which they wish to play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children know what is expected of them at the childminder's home and their behaviour is good. They share toys and encourage others to join in with their games. Children help to tidy toys away and learn the importance of maintaining a safe play environment. They enjoy sitting and looking at books together. Children know how to handle books and turn the pages carefully. They develop skills to prepare them for future learning and starting school.
