This provision is good
The childminder is very attentive and responsive to children's individual needs. Children form a strong bond with her and settle quickly into her care. Children enjoy the activities the childminder offers and are eager to participate. She individually tailors them to the children's needs. This helps children to achieve their next steps and make good progress in their learning from their starting points. The childminder uses her local area to extend the range of interesting learning experiences she offers. Children get involved in the community and learn to embrace, value and respect similarities and differences in themselves and others. The childminder develops positive partnerships with parents and shares daily information with them about their children. This helps parents to be aware of their children's achievements and the childminder is able to assess children's development accurately and to monitor their progress.
p.1
This provision is good
Children behave well and demonstrate good social skills. The childminder has clear routines and high expectations for good behaviour. This helps children understand rules and boundaries from an early age.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder reflects regularly on her provision, she does not evaluate her practice as well as she could, to raise the quality of teaching even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make greater use of self-evaluation to identify precisely strengths and weaknesses in practice to help raise the quality of the provision to the highest level possible.

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding and observed children engaged in a variety of learning experiences. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during the activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures. The inspector looked at the written feedback from parents and took their views into account.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is very committed and passionate about her role. She ensures her home is welcoming and safe for children. She ensures that children have a variety of learning experiences, such as playing indoors, going to the library or visiting the farm. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps herself up to date with safeguarding matters and knows the procedures to follow if she should have a concern about a child's safety or welfare. She completes regular risk assessments for her home and outings to help her ensure that children are safe. The childminder networks with other childminders to discuss practice and share ideas. This helps her to learn new things and refresh her knowledge. Parents state that they are very happy with the quality of care their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well and has a secure understanding of child development. She reveals her enjoyment when playing with children, sharing giggles with them and responding to their interests. She accurately assess the ability of the children and identifies appropriate next steps to help them make good progress. Children have opportunities to play with a variety of resources and the childminder skilfully guides their learning. This helps ensure that children develop well across the different areas. For example, when completing a puzzle, children develop their coordination skills, learn about the different types of transport, and shapes and space. The childminder completes the progress check for children at age two years and shares this with their parents. This helps ensure they know how their children are progressing and how to support their learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder forms secure attachments with the children and builds effective relationships with the parents from the start. Children are well supported in their play, learning about sharing resources. The childminder frequently praises children's good behaviour and achievements, and uses effective strategies to help young children learn about what is expected. For example, she offers them similar resources when waiting for their turn. The childminder uses outings and regular fire drills to help children learn about safety and risks. Children have many opportunities to be physically active, to promote their good health. They learn good hygiene procedures and enjoy healthy meals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn about the world around them and use their experiences well in their play. They have meaningful discussions and talk about what they do. For example, during pretend and imaginary play, children talk about family members driving a van or about the 'hot food' in the home corner. Children develop good communication skills. Children are confident in their learning and celebrate their achievements, for example, when they complete puzzles, they raise their arms in excitement. Children gain good skills for future learning and moving on to school.
