This provision is good
Children build strong bonds with the childminder who has a warm and nurturing personality. They show that they feel happy and comfortable in her care. Children snuggle up to the childminder as she reads them their favourite stories. The childminder focuses well on her role. She regularly completes training to continue to enhance her skills. Recent training has increased her knowledge of specific ways to promote children's understanding of different cultures. The childminder plans a wide range of experiences to help children to make good progress. Children develop a good understanding of the natural world. They enthusiastically search for small insects and snails in the childminder's garden. Children learn to respect living things. They carefully hold a snail in their hand and replace it back where they found it. The childminder forms secure partnerships with parents. She involves them in every

aspect of their child's learning and care. They describe the childminder as 'kind', 'loving' and 'very responsible'.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not share precise information with other settings where children attend, to enable a shared approach to children's learning. On occasions, the childminder does not adapt activities in response to children's individual interests to further extend their concentration and imagination.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to and interacted with children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of possible signs that indicate that children are at risk of harm. She knows how to take swift action to protect children's welfare in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder follows strict procedures to help to ensure that children remain safe in her care. She regularly reflects on the service she provides. This ensures that the childminder identifies and acts effectively to address any areas for improvement. The childminder carefully reviews children's progress to swiftly address any gaps in their learning. She keeps parents fully informed of her comprehensive range of policies and procedures.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a calm environment where children persevere at completing challenging tasks. They work out that they need to position large toy bricks at the base of the tower they are building to enable it to balance. The childminder provides children with good opportunities that help them to develop the fine muscles in their hands in preparation for writing. Children use a small rod with a magnet on the end to collect magnetic wooden sea animals. They mould dough in their hands and use small tools, such as cutters and rollers. The childminder places a strong emphasis on promoting children's language skills. She actively listens to children. This motivates them to use complex sentences to describe the role of a fire engine and the sound that it makes. The childminder introduces children to new descriptive words in context, as they explore how cooked spaghetti feels using their hands.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well and use good manners without being reminded to do so. They show a good sense of responsibility for their environment. Children eagerly tidy away the toys with which they have finished playing. The childminder encourages children to be independent individuals. Children grow in confidence as they learn to assess their own risks and develop new physical skills. They spin a hula hoop around their waist and arm.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children link sounds to the letters that they represent and name various words beginning with the same initial sound. They develop good mathematical skills. Children count, identify complex shapes and sort objects. They use positional language during their play, such as 'upside down' and 'behind' as they stick pictures of fish onto paper. Children express a keen interest in books. They study the pictures on each page and talk about what is happening. Children gain the skills needed to help prepare them for their future learning at school.
