This provision is inadequate
The childminder has not kept her safeguarding knowledge up to date. She does not have a clear understanding of all child protection procedures. The childminder is not clear about the procedure to follow in the event of an allegation being made against her or a member of her family. The childminder does not maintain a current and valid paediatric first-aid certificate. The childminder does not consistently obtain prior written consent from parents for administering medication. The childminder does not use observations and assessments well to plan enjoyable and challenging experiences that build on each child's interests and help them to make good progress. In addition, she has not developed robust systems to assess children's starting points in learning.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder encourages children's independence. They help to tidy up after they have finished playing, use the toilet unaided and can take and put on their own shoes and coat.

Inspection activities
The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members over 16 years of age and checked evidence of the qualifications of the childminder.
p.3
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate
The arrangements for safeguarding are not effective. The childminder lacks knowledge of current safeguarding matters, including being alert to signs that children may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas. In addition, she does not understand safeguarding procedures in relation to who to notify if an allegation is made against herself or household members. This puts children at risk. The childminder does not hold an appropriate paediatric first-aid certificate, as required. However, this does not have a significant impact on children's welfare as the childminder retains some previous knowledge of how to meet children's needs in the event of an accident. The childminder has not identified that she is not meeting all legal requirements. She does not place enough focus on reviewing her provision to ensure she is up to date with current good practice. She has not identified or addressed key weaknesses in her knowledge and skills.
p.4
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate
The childminder does not use information from her observations of children to effectively plan activities which are suited to their current ages and abilities. Activities offered do not challenge or inspire children and, as a result, they lose focus quickly and only engage in activities for a short period. However, the childminder interacts with children in a positive way. She makes good use of opportunities to consistently build on children's language and communication skills. Children have toys and resources freely available to them so that they can chose what to play with. Partnerships with parents are established and the childminder regularly communicates with parents about children's daily care routines. However, she does not work with parents to identify what children know and can do when they first start in her care. This means, the childminder does not have information on how to best tailor the environment or activities to meet children's individual needs.
p.4
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate
Weaknesses in leadership and management mean that children's welfare is not assured. In addition, the childminder does not maintain a detailed written record of when she has administered medication to children. This compromises children's health. However, children attend settling-in visits when they first start with the childminder. The childminder provides praise and reassurance to help children settle in her care. She ensures the children's routines are followed to meet their individual care needs. The childminder is clear and fair in her behaviour management strategies and children understand what is expected of them.
p.4
Outcomes for children are inadequate
Weaknesses in teaching mean that children do not make the progress they are capable of achieving. Children are not supported for the next stages in their learning or prepared well enough for when they move on to school and more formal education. Despite this, older children are effective communicators and show an interest in books and stories. They count well, recognise colours and complete puzzles. Children develop friendly relationships with each other. They are learning to share, take turns and consider the needs of others.
