p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Leaders do not monitor the quality of teaching well enough. Staff do not consistently use their observations and assessments of what children know and can do to plan challenging experiences. This means children do not make the best possible progress in their learning and development. Leaders do not ensure that staff are deployed effectively to ensure appropriately qualified staff work with the babies. Staff do not always keep parents up to date about their children’s development. As a result, parents do not know whether their child is making good progress in their learning and development. Staff cannot demonstrate when they have shared information with child protection agencies.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Parents speak positively about the care provided to their children. They especially like the flexible childcare where staff pick up and drop children off at home and other settings. Staff ensure that children's care needs are met. For example, children can eat and sleep according to their home routines. Children have good opportunities to enjoy outside play, which helps them keep active. Staff are kind and caring with the children. As a result, children settle quickly and easily.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2
Due Date
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
further improve information shared with parents so they are kept informed about their children's progress in learning and development, and to help them contribute to their children's learning further improve systems to demonstrate the action taken to share concerns about children with child protection agencies.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed a range of activities provided for children. The inspector took account of the views of parents. The inspector spoke with staff, children and the owners at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a number of policies and procedures and records of children’s learning. The inspector observed interactions between staff and children throughout the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the deputy manager.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Leaders have some understanding of what works well and what needs to improve. However, they do not monitor the effectiveness of the provision well enough. This results in variable teaching across the setting. The baby room has no member of staff with a level 3 qualification. This is a requirement of registration. Safeguarding is effective. Staff know what action to take if they have a concern about a child's welfare. However, staff cannot demonstrate when information has been shared by telephone with child protection agencies. Leaders identify and appropriately seek extra help for children with additional needs so they can benefit from external support. Parents particularly like the flexible care arrangements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The quality of teaching is inconsistent, which means that some children are not supported in making the best possible progress. Activities do not always provide the necessary challenge for children. As a result, some children are not actively engaged in their learning and become easily distracted. For example, children eagerly experiment and predict that mixing blue and red makes purple. However, they quickly lose interest due to the limited resources available. Staff effectively use circle time as an opportunity to welcome children and help them feel included. Children share experiences with each other and they happily join in. Staff promote mathematics in some activities. For example, staff encourage children to count and recognise numbers, which positively supports their emerging mathematical development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children are confident and friendly and develop positive relationships with the staff and their friends. Mealtimes are a social occasion. Staff sit with the children and help them to learn good table manners. Babies have good opportunities to play with different materials and textures, for example, as they explore the sand. However, staff do not provide enough support, which causes a little disruption as babies pour sand on each other. Staff work well to ensure babies’ routines reflect parents’ requests. Staff check sleeping children regularly, which ensures their safety. Children with severe allergies are well catered for. Food is freshly cooked each day and staff are aware of children’s dietary needs. Children benefit from daily fresh air in the outside area. Toddlers particularly enjoy the slide and swing, which supports their emerging physical development. Children also enjoy looking after the chickens and guinea pigs, which helps them to understand the importance of
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children generally enjoy their time at the nursery. However, due to inconsistencies in teaching, some children are not making as much progress as they could. Older children are independent in managing their personal care needs, which promotes their physical development. Children gain some of the skills that prepare them for the next stage in their learning and move to school.
