This provision is good
The childminder works closely with parents to help them to extend their children's learning at home. Children benefit from the continuity in their learning. The childminder provides a range of interesting activities that captures children's interest and imaginations. They remain engrossed in their learning for extended periods. Children make good progress from their different starting points. Children's emotional well-being is skilfully nurtured by the childminder. They are confident and secure in their relationships with her and turn to her for help or comfort, if needed. Parents praise the childminder for being 'nurturing and caring' and say they are 'delighted' with the care she provides. The childminder uses regular observations of children's learning to effectively monitor their current interests and the progress they are making in their learning. Overall, she improves their outcomes and prepares them well for their future lives.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The resources provided for children do not reflect diversity as fully as possible to support children in learning about their similarities and differences. The childminder's planning does not focus as precisely as possible on the individual learning needs of each child, to support them in making even better progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children as they were engaged in a variety of activities. The inspector looked at the rooms and resources used by the children. The inspector considered how the childminder reflects on her practice and her partnerships with parents. She looked at a range of documents. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she observes and assesses the children's progress, and how she meets their care needs. The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder clearly understands the signs and symptoms that may cause concern about the welfare of a child in her care and knows the referral procedure to follow. She has made herself aware of how to identify children who may be at risk of exposure to extreme ideas or behaviours. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and professional development and has undertaken training to enhance her skills and knowledge. Regular risk assessments help the childminder to keep children safe. For example, she puts strategies in place to protect children while they go on their regular local walks.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children delight in learning about the natural world. For example, they play in snow, sow seeds and excitedly watch farm animals. The childminder supports them in developing an understanding of technology. Children laugh with delight as they press buttons on toys, which light up and make sounds. Children's physical skills are consistently supported. For example, children develop their fine-motor skills as they use their hands and fingers to squeeze, rub and scoop coloured foam. The varied and accessible resources effectively support children in becoming independent learners. The childminder consistently supports the mathematical development of all children. For example, she counts and uses mathematical language in many of the activities she provides for children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder effectively supports children in carrying out simple, manageable tasks. For example, they cut mushrooms, peel sprouts and enjoy participating in 'tidy time'. Children are supported in learning to manage their own risks, such as when they walk and explore in local woodland. They learn about how to care for other living creatures. Children smile as they explain that the caterpillars they are looking after will turn into butterflies. They learn about healthy lifestyles while eating the interesting and nutritious food they help the childminder to cook. Children develop good social skills and learn how to play in larger groups of children during regular visits to local groups.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are self-motivated learners. They are persistent and persevere as they learn new skills. They delight in demonstrating what they have learned and gain great satisfaction from their activities. They experiment with different ways of moving, for example, by running, spinning and jumping. Children spontaneously use their developing mathematical skills to count the fish they catch during their water play and use their emerging language to describe their different colours. They are prepared well for the next stages in their learning.
