This provision is good
The childminder is a good role model. She is calm, gentle and positive with children. She effectively builds children's self-esteem, giving meaningful praise and encouragement for good behaviour and individual efforts. The childminder encourages children to lead their own play and knows when to offer further challenge to extend their learning. She follows children's own interests well and provides toys to support these. Children make good progress in their learning. Children form secure bonds with the childminder. They demonstrate that they feel safe in her care and she supports them to become confident in different social situations with new people. Children of all ages are motivated to be independent and self-reliant. They experience a broad range of physical activities and develop their muscle control. Children's physical well-being and safety are well ensured.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use her assessments of children's learning precisely enough to help them make better than good progress. The childminder does not consistently gather detailed information from parents to extend their children's learning from the start.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
embed assessment systems further so that children are supported to make even higher levels of progress gather as much information from parents on entry to establish what children already know and can do, and support learning from the very start.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times. She looked at relevant documentation and checked the suitability of persons living on the premises. The inspector took into account parents' views. The inspector discussed self-evaluation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder ensures that she keeps up to date to help her maintain a strong understanding of her role and responsibilities in keeping children safe. She understands how to protect children who may be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas or views. The childminder knows where to report any concerns she may have about a child in the event of a safeguarding concern. The childminder is committed to providing children with high-quality care and learning. She uses her self-evaluation effectively to reflect on areas of improvement. The childminder engages in professional development to improve her practice and outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children learn through play. They have fun naming the colours of paint and dough. The childminder has a good understanding about how children learn and follows their individual interests well. For example, she provides a supportive environment where children can follow their own ideas and imaginations. Children enjoy imaginative play using cars and farm resources. The childminder asks purposeful questions which encourage children to think about and communicate their ideas. This helps to develop their thinking and speaking skills. Children enjoy sharing a variety of books together. The childminder uses activities to challenge children to build on their mathematical understanding. For example, she asks children how many pieces of dough they have cut.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. They learn to share resources, take turns and behave well. Children benefit from good opportunities to develop their social skills and mix with larger groups before and after school. Older children competently carry out tasks for themselves, such as washing and drying their hands, and gain a good understanding of safe and healthy practices. For example, during weekly swimming lessons children understand the importance of listening and following the pool rules. The childminder boosts children's confidence and self-esteem effectively by giving plenty of praise and encouragement. Children begin to recognise their physical needs, for example, they request drinks when thirsty.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy playing together. They learn to tolerate differences and build a growing understanding of others. Behaviour and attitudes are good. Children develop well across all areas of learning. For example, children listen attentively and speak with confidence. They learn good mathematical and early reading and writing skills, in preparation for the next stage in their education.
