This provision is good
The childminder's extremely effective monitoring of the learning provision and of children's progress helps her to achieve very high-quality outcomes. All children make excellent progress and most are achieving at better than expected levels in some areas of the curriculum. The childminder monitors the effectiveness of improvements to her practice by the positive impact on children's learning. For example, having improved outdoor learning opportunities, she rapidly identified children's increased interest in role play. The childminder successfully involves parents in their children's learning and uses her excellent observations to show them how much progress they make from their starting points. She involves parents in planning their children's next steps in learning. She provides good information about children's progress to other early years settings. Children's self-esteem is excellent and they show they feel very emotionally secure. The

This provision is good
childminder is an extremely good role model who teaches children how to respect each other's feelings and express their emotions very confidently.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder's self-evaluation focuses very well on improving the quality of teaching. However, it is less effective in identifying where the childminder can improve processes and procedures to further support the good care children receive. Children have few opportunities to learn to use technology in different ways.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop self-evaluation to focus more effectively on processes and procedures so these consistently support children's needs to a higher standard continue to improve the range of activities to teach children how to use technology for different purposes.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children engaged in learning activities, indoors and outside. The inspector talked to the childminder about how she monitors children's learning and plans for their future progress. The inspector talked to children and read feedback from parents about the care their children receive. The inspector sampled required records that support children's welfare, including safeguarding procedures. She talked to the childminder about how she implements these.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder focuses very well on her own personal development and is committed to providing high-quality learning experiences for children. She applies new knowledge extremely effectively and monitors the impact on children's learning very well. For example, making story times an active experience and not relying on the book resulted in all children, and particularly boys, showing more interest. Children also became more confident in using their imaginations to take storylines in different directions and make up possible endings. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a thorough knowledge of local safeguarding procedures and knows what to do, to help protect children from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder brings activities to life and her enthusiasm makes everything enjoyable for children. She inspires children very well to want to learn, and she uses her excellent knowledge of child development to plan highly exciting activities that absorb them completely. For example, children built a house for the three pigs, using no materials but building with their imaginations, bending, stretching and drawing shapes in the air to show the dimensions of the walls and placement of the windows. The childminder extends children's learning extremely effectively. For example, children built a den to hide from the 'big bad wolf', and the childminder talked about wearing a disguise 'so the wolf won't recognise us'; children loved this idea. The childminder makes excellent use of opportunities to develop children's learning further, such as observing how their shadows move and change size.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's behaviour is extremely good. Older children consistently ensure they include younger ones in what they do. For example, they decided to put on a show and very confidently sang songs and danced together. They made sure younger children were included and had their turn to perform. Children's safety awareness is very good and they make their own risk assessments as they play. For example, they talked about whether or not it was safe to ride bicycles wearing their superhero capes. They decided to take these off in case the capes caught in the wheels, which could cause an accident.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children learn extremely good skills that prepare them very well for the next stage in their learning, including going to school. For example, children not yet three years old understood and very confidently followed relatively complex instructions to remember where they left their boots last time they came in from outside. This included positional language, such as 'underneath the radiator' and 'beside the door', encouraging them to use their extremely good developing knowledge of early mathematics.
