Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector interacted with children during the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents through written feedback provided by the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder and looked at relevant documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is a good role model to her assistants. She uses self-evaluation and training events to continually improve her practice. She is currently undertaking a level 3 qualification in early years. The childminder provides good levels of training, support and coaching for her assistants. The childminder works effectively with her assistants to provide good-quality care and learning experiences for children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants have a strong understanding of the action they must take if they have a concern about a child in their care. They take all necessary steps to keep children safe. The childminder ensures that adults who live and work on the premises are suitable to do so.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder monitors children's progress and identifies well-targeted next steps for children, and shares this information with parents. The childminder uses this information well to plan a wide variety of experiences for children that helps them to become curious and interested in finding things out. For example, the childminder takes children to visit a local farm where they have first-hand experiences of nature and people in their community. The childminder creates further opportunities for children to consolidate and build upon their learning at the farm through playing creatively, imaginatively and finding more information from books. The childminder and her assistant are skilful in capturing and sustaining children's interest. They are playful and show high levels of interest in what children say and do. They help children to persist and achieve their self-chosen goal, such as building a farm building.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from receiving lots of praise and encouragement. They are supported well to understand and follow simple rules. Children share and take turns to use resources. Older children are considerate and caring towards younger children. Children learn about staying safe and healthy as they follow routines of the day. For example, children help to tidy away toys and know that they need to wash their hands before eating their lunch. Children enjoy daily opportunities to be active in the outdoors and develop good control of their bodies, and they have time to rest and sleep. Children learn about people and communities beyond their immediate experiences.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills for their next steps in learning and for school, when the time comes. Children show good levels of curiosity. They are eager to show what they know and can do, and to try new things. They are active and motivated learners who initiate their own play and are eager to take part in activities. Children listen and follow instructions well. Children enjoy looking at books. Older children recognise letters of the alphabet and write recognisable simple words, such as their name.
