This provision is good
Children benefit from a warm and welcoming learning environment where they feel safe and secure. The childminder provides a good range of resources and children make choices about their play. This supports their independence effectively and helps them to be motivated to learn. The childminder uses her observations and assessments of children's development effectively to plan interesting activities to help children to move on in their learning well. Children make good progress from their starting points. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder keeps parents informed about children's achievements and involves them in their development well. For example, she shares ideas and resources for activities at home to reinforce children's learning. The childminder is reflective of her practice and identifies what needs to be developed to improve the service she provides for children and families. For example, she is

It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally the childminder does not encourage children to express their individual ideas and creativity in their art and craft activities. ? Although the childminder supports children's communication and language skills well, she does not consistently give them enough time to respond to questions, to fully promote their thinking skills and extend their speech development further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder engaged in activities with the children. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at a range of policies and the children's records. The inspector took account of the views of parents and the children.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows the signs that might lead her to be concerned about a child's welfare. She is clear about local safeguarding procedures. The childminder ensures that her assistant is suitable to work with children and attends mandatory training to keep them safe and secure. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date, for example, by attending training and carrying out research to enhance her resources and activities. The childminder monitors children's development conscientiously, and identifies and addresses any gaps in their learning. She works in effective partnership with outside agencies to support children who need extra help to achieve their full potential. The childminder has effective links with local schools and provides good support when children need to move on in their education.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop through play. She joins in with their play enthusiastically and encourages children to investigate and explore activities, developing their curiosity and enjoyment well. For example, as children enjoy sharing a favourite book with the childminder she uses interesting resources to help them to understand the sequence of the story. This promotes their good engagement in the activity effectively and develops their early literacy skills well. As children explore the resources, the childminder supports their mathematical development effectively as she encourages them to count accurately and compare quantities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is attentive to children's individual needs and forms affectionate relationships with them. This helps children to feel confident to explore the activities on offer with enjoyment. The childminder provides consistent encouragement for children to use good manners and behave well. She skilfully supports them to understand their feelings and those of others. Children share toys, take turns during activities and behave well. Children follow good hygiene routines and learn to adopt healthy lifestyles. The childminder encourages them to eat healthy and nutritious food. She takes them on visits to local parks and places of interest, and they enjoy fresh air and exercise each day. Children get to know their local community and develop their physical skills effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain the skills they need for future learning and their eventual move on to school. They take part in activities with enthusiasm and enjoyment. Children enjoy exploring a variety of different resources and develop curiosity and good sensory skills. They concentrate well and use tools and equipment with skill and dexterity.
