Pine Forest Homes Limited
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home provides care and accommodation for up to four young people who have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. A private company owns and operates the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This home was last inspected in March 2018 and was judged to have declined in effectiveness. Six requirements were made, of which three were subject to compliance notices. A restriction of accommodation notice was also issued.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit took place to check progress and to ensure that the compliance notices have been met and that no further young people have been admitted.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The provider has met the three compliance notices. Direct work around bullying, and the effects of bullying, is now regularly completed with young people by appropriately skilled staff. Improvements have been made to how the provider works with external partners. For example, an external trainer is working with the staff to develop their knowledge and awareness of the effects of bullying. The manager has made links with schools to ensure that there is a joined-up approach to working with young people.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The leadership and management of the home has also improved. The provider is in the process of implementing a new filing and recording system. In the meantime, the provider is ensuring that its current systems continue to operate and are appropriately monitored. The manager has a range of checks and audits in place to regularly review the quality of recording and work being completed in the home. This focuses on key areas of care practice, such as health and safety, care plans, medication, complaints and key-working sessions. The use of inappropriate Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC057688 2 sanctions has now stopped. There have been no restraints since the last inspection.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Young people now enjoy a variety of hobbies, interests and opportunities to try new things. Young people are encouraged to invite their friends to their home. The staff team supports young people with travelling to see their friends and also maintaining links with their home areas. This supports young people’s sense of belonging and social development. Similarly, staff provide a range of activities for young people, including gym membership, contact with family and facilitating ‘stay overs’ with friends. This increase in activities is supporting improvements elsewhere in the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The provider has updated its safeguarding policy. This now includes all required detail and ensures that staff are directed on how to manage, and refer, any concerns about a young person. The manager’s own reporting has been completed and sent to Ofsted. However, this report still lacks confirmation that the views from young people, parents and placing services have been considered.
p.2
This monitoring visit
No children or young people have been admitted to the home since the last inspection.
