This provision is good
The childminder is well qualified and experienced. She understands how young children develop and grow. She plans and provides varied and imaginative learning experiences for children. Children make consistently good progress in their development. Partnerships with parents are strong. Parents are encouraged to share what they know about their child when they start attending the setting. They are also kept updated and involved in their child's ongoing progress and learning. The childminder gives good priority to the safety of children in the home and on outings. She supervises them well. The childminder regularly attends safeguarding training and is aware of the procedures to follow should she suspect a child is at risk of harm. The childminder encourages children to be independent from a young age. She gives them opportunities to put on their own coats and shoes, pour their own drinks and wash their hands. These prepare them well for future learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not introduce shapes and numbers in meaningful context during children's play. This means children have less opportunities to hear and practise what they know to enhance their skills further. The childminder has not fully considered how to exploit the outdoor learning environment to enable children to challenge and test their large-muscle skills further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of those living on the premises, policies and procedures and training certificates. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written testimonies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder undertakes daily checks of the home and garden to help ensure that any potential risks to children are minimised. The childminder evaluates her provision and identifies areas that she would like to develop even further. She is committed to her role and shows a good capacity to improve. For example, she attends regular training and keeps up to date with changes in practice through websites and discussions with other childminders. The childminder exchanges information about children's learning and development with other early years settings they attend. This supports a consistent approach for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular and precise assessments of children's learning. She uses the information gathered from these to monitor children's progress and help to plan for the next steps in their learning effectively. The childminder communicates and interacts well with children during their play, helping them to develop good language and social skills. For example, when sitting with the children, she provides a running dialogue to help model positive interactions with each other. Children use speech confidently to express their needs and to organise their play. For example, as they talk to and 'feed' the doll before putting it to bed. Children show good hand-to-eye coordination as they try and thread bobbins onto thread. They persevere and are praised highly when they are successful. They enjoy being creative and learn about the world as they play. This is noted as they show developing skills in pencil control when colouring a picture of St. George and
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's gradual settling-in process and good range of information gathered from parents help children adjust well to their new environment. As a result, children develop a positive sense of emotional well-being. The childminder is friendly and caring and children interact happily with her, showing they feel safe in her care. Children demonstrate good behaviour. The childminder consistently praises their efforts. Her calm approach and positive reinforcement help children to learn what is expected of them. Children are learning how to be safe. When asked, children can explain what happens when they practise the fire evacuation. Further to this, children are taught about road safety and learn how to keep the environment safe and free from hazards.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children, including those who receive funding for their early education, make good progress from their starting points. Younger children lead their own learning and demonstrate confidence as they play and explore. They show confidence in their environment and help themselves to resources to support and build on their ideas. Children enjoy looking at books, listening to stories and singing and dancing to nursery rhymes and songs.
