Inspection activities
The inspector observed the activities and the quality of teaching indoors and outdoors. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents through questionnaires and written testimonials. The inspector and the childminder jointly reviewed the activities children took part in. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, children's records, planning and evaluations.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The childminder is inspired to improve her skills and knowledge. She is pursuing a childcare degree to enhance her already extensive knowledge of children's learning and development. The childminder uses technology effectively to share knowledge about the children with all those involved in their care. Parents and grandparents regularly upload photographs and videos of children's learning at home to share with the childminder. They support the exceptional individual planning for their children's next steps in learning. The childminder also supports parents and children as they move into pre-schools, including through sending information to new key persons. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder makes sure she has current information for keeping all children safe and knows exactly what to do if she has concerns about a child.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder provides exceptional teaching for the children, readily extending their thoughts and ideas. For example, as they share favourite books she encourages them to find words, letters and pictures, as well as asking them to predict what might happen next. The childminder uses spontaneous opportunities to support children's mathematics and communication extremely well. For example, at snack time, they tell her how many plates are needed, correctly counting to four. The childminder encourages further discussion about what colours they can see and who would like which one.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
Children enjoy exploring the stimulating environments and learn to manage risks with excellent support from the childminder. For instance, when they get the ride-on toy cow stuck on the step into the kitchen, the childminder helps children to work out how they can move it for themselves and praises their efforts. The childminder teaches children well about being healthy. For example, children have great fun joining in exercises to music. She recognises that she could enhance this more at mealtimes, such as talking more about healthy food choices. Children are very kind to each other. For example, when they bump into one another they apologise and give cuddles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Young children are highly motivated and confident. They engage extremely well in activities for their age and stage of development. Young children excitedly explore the 'magic tray', anticipating that they will find something new to play with. They find different sea creatures which they can name when asked. Children stack the boats, exclaiming over the colours, saying which is their favourite. Outdoors they experiment with the sand, making castles and filling containers. All children make excellent progress from their starting points.
