This provision is good
Children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder plans an interesting range of activities, which captures the children's interests. The childminder is very committed to further developing her current good childminding practice. She attends training courses to strengthen her knowledge of childcare and development. Since the last inspection, the enthusiastic childminder has taken positive steps to help children understand similarities and differences between themselves and others. The childminder promotes children's good health. She encourages children to eat healthy snacks and meals, and teaches good hygiene practices. The childminder risk assesses her premises and other environments used by the children, such as parks. She identifies and makes any necessary changes to help keep children safe and secure.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
When children first attend, the childminder does not gather enough information from parents about what their child already knows and can do, to plan for their learning more quickly. The childminder misses some opportunities to help parents to extend children's learning at home, to develop a more shared approach to their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home and garden. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records and planning, and discussed the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with safeguarding practices. She has a good understanding of the reporting procedures should she have concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder raises children's awareness of their own safety, for example, by practising the fire evacuation procedure and discussing road safety on outings. The childminder is very motivated. She reflects on her practice and encourages parents to express their views. This helps her to make improvements in her service to benefit the children. For example, she recalls how training helped her to explore new ideas for children's play experiences and to be more conscious of her good teaching practices.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of learning needs of the age range of children from whom she is caring. She observes the children while they play to help her assess their progress. The childminder encourages children to be as independent as possible. For example, she sets out good-quality toys and resources at their level, so they can independently choose what they want to use. As children play, the childminder uses running commentary and asks open questions to help develop their good language skills. She makes suggestions to challenge children's thinking, and raises their understanding of difference and similarities, for example, as they enjoy being creative by making people and butterflies.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder develops close relationships with the children from the start. She ensures that children are emotionally well prepared for their next stage in learning. The childminder acts as a good role model, helping children learn right from wrong and what is expected of them. They enjoy plenty of praise and encouragement and this helps boost their self-esteem. Children are given clear messages about the importance of eating healthily and taking physical exercise. They make good progress in their physical development and move their bodies in a variety of ways. For example, they have fun rolling around and balancing on one knee.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their different starting points. They develop key skills needed for their next steps in learning. Children are kind and caring towards one another, and they begin to make friendships. Children enjoy exploring numbers, colours, shapes, sizes and measurement. They practise their early writing skills, for example, as they use chalks on the wall in the garden. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and eventual move to school.
