This provision is good
The childminder provides children with a warm and inviting home-from-home environment. Children select resources to support their interests, promoting their independence well. The childminder records information about children's achievements on an electronic programme. Parents access this to find out about their child's day. The childminder gathers information from parents when their children first start about their care and prior learning. This helps her to plan for children's good progress. Children are confident and communicate their needs well to the childminder. They talk to her about what they are doing and make good eye contact with her. The childminder listens to children's views and responds appropriately. She introduces new words, such as 'squishy', which children copy, helping them to develop their vocabulary. The childminder makes changes to her provision to benefit the children. She gathers

the views of parents to help her to identify improvements. Recent changes to the toys and resources available indoors provide children with more learning opportunities.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide a wide range of opportunities for children who prefer to learn outside to extend their learning. The childminder does not focus her professional development on enhancing the quality of her teaching, to extend children's learning to an outstanding level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and looked at relevant documentation. The inspector spoke with children. The inspector took account of the views of parents through reading the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder works well with other early years settings that children attend. She gathers information about children's learning to promote consistency. She helps children to be ready for when they move on to school. Younger children go with her when she takes older children to school. This helps them to become familiar with the environment and teachers. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows her responsibilities to keep children safe. She has clear policies and procedures in place to refer to if she has concerns about a child's safety. The childminder helps children to learn about how to keep themselves safe. She teaches children the procedure to follow if they need to evacuate her home in an emergency.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows how children learn and offers them activities indoors that challenge their learning well. She observes and monitors children's development to ensure that they are working at an appropriate stage of development for their age. The childminder talks to children about their interests. When children play with toy animals, she asks them which their favourite is. Children confidently talk to the childminder and say which animal they like the best. The childminder asks children a good range of questions, helping them to develop their thinking skills. When children play with beads, the childminder asks them to put the beads into the pot that is the same colour. Children follow instructions and solve problems in their play, developing their mathematical skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder helps children to learn about a healthy lifestyle. Parents say that their children enjoy a variety of healthy and balanced meals. The childminder encourages children to wash and cut up fruit, helping them to learn about how food is prepared. For example, children use plastic knives to chop up strawberries. The childminder provides opportunities for children to learn about their local community. She takes them to the library and to soft-play centres. Children have opportunities to develop their physical skills. They kick balls and climb the steps to slides. Children behave well. The childminder gives children plenty of praise and encouragement. This helps to raise their sense of self- esteem. She reminds them to use good manners.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children demonstrate that they feel emotionally secure in the childminder's care. They solve problems as they fit puzzle pieces into a wooden board. Children show care for the childminder's home. They work as a team to carry boxes of toys to the playroom, working out how to carry them safely. Children enjoy listening to stories. They turn the pages of books and know how a book is constructed, demonstrating good early literacy skills. Children make good progress in their learning and develop key skills needed for their move on to school.
