This provision is good
The manager and deputy have recently returned to their roles following maternity leave. Since doing so they have scrutinised all aspects of the practice through evaluation to help identify a vast range of developments that they are effectively implementing. Staff are working very hard to help increase children's awareness of their own community. For example, they take them on outings to the local train station to help become aware of the amenities in the area. Since the last inspection, the management team have enhanced the performance management of staff. They now give them detailed feedback to help maintain their good standards and raise some aspects of teaching to an outstanding level. Staff have strong relationships with parents. They regularly exchange information about children's learning. Staff make good use of what parents share about their children's capabilities at home to help fully inform their ongoing assessments.
p.1
This provision is good
The standard of care is outstanding. Staff go above and beyond to support children and their families when they request further help. They work closely with parents to promote seamless continuity for children when they first start at pre-school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, staff do not fully promote children's learning to a consistently outstanding level, specifically to further enhance their early reading skills and awareness of different concepts.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
strengthen teaching to build on children's already good early reading skills and understanding of simple concepts.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this had on children's learning. He completed a joint observation with the manager. The inspector spoke with staff and children during the inspection. The inspector held discussions with the special educational needs and disabilities coordinator and key persons. He spoke to them about partnerships with other professionals, children's progress and safeguarding. The inspector held a meeting with the manager and deputy. He looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of committee members responsible for running the pre-school and for staff working in the pre-school. The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection, viewed their written feedback and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Professional development has a positive impact on staff teaching. Those designated for supporting children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities use their knowledge and skills from training very well. They have used them to help close gaps in children's social skills rapidly. Safeguarding is effective. All staff have a good knowledge of child protection procedures gained from safeguarding training and induction. They know the signs of abuse and how to report concerns about children's welfare. The provider follows safer recruitment procedures to help ensure all staff are suitable. They also provide Ofsted with necessary information to help check all committee members are suitable to fulfil their roles and responsibilities.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff undertake detailed observations of children's learning to help them plan interesting activities. They teach younger children outstanding physical skills to support their future early writing development. Two-year-olds can draw lines and circles using different writing materials, such as cotton buds in glue. Staff work closely with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists to help children develop good communication and language skills. They use the advice they receive to teach children to speak in sentences and follow instructions. Monitoring of children's progress is strong. This helps to identify children who need additional help and to accelerate the progress of different groups of children. For example, managers provide specific teaching groups to help close the significant gaps in some childrens development, especially in physical and personal, social and emotional development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The management team have recently reviewed the indoor environment and garden. They have successfully improved the organisation and layout of resources. This has significantly enhanced children's independence skills to enable them to choose their own resources and lead their own learning. Staff use additional funding the pre-school receives for some children excellently and this has a significantly positive impact on their learning and development. For instance, staff have provided expressive arts sessions for children. This has helped children to become extremely confident and self-assured and develop outstanding moving and handling skills. Staff promote children's health, welfare and well- being to an exceptionally high standard through the sensitive and nurturing care they provide to children. Children have an excellent understanding of healthy lifestyles. Staff teach them about the importance of exercise as they dance and move to music.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are learning the skills they need for school. Some aspects of their development are better than good, including their levels of concentration that are much higher than expected for their age. Children have good mathematical skills and can count in sequence.
