Children remind friends to wear their sun hats and they remember that they need to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. The childminder has a good understanding of what children like to do. She plans an entertaining range of activities that meets children's learning needs. Children are excited to learn new skills and they are able to maintain concentration for long periods. Children thrive in the nurturing environment. They make very good progress in their learning and development in the childminder's care. The childminder builds secure partnerships with parents. They continually communicate with each other about children's care. The childminder offers parents advice about supporting children through difficult times in their personal lives. The childminder works hard to raise the quality of her practice and she identifies how

changes have an impact on children. Lately, she has improved the indoor area. Very young children are happy to explore and seek out new play experiences. The childminder is vigilant. She continually risk assesses her provision, such as when she checks the environment is safe and ensures that all equipment is well maintained.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently give children clear instructions, which can be confusing for children.

Inspection activities
The inspector evaluated an adult-led activity with the childminder. They discussed how the activity met the needs of the children. The inspector talked to the childminder about her priorities for future improvement and about recent changes she has made to her practice. The inspector watched the childminder interacting with children indoors and outdoors. The inspector discussed the progress different children are making in their learning and development. The inspector asked the childminder about the procedures she follows to protect children from harm.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The open and honest childminder seeks the views of parents and professionals to help her evaluate the standard of her provision. For instance, she asks parents to complete questionnaires to share their opinions. Since the last inspection, she has improved the methods she uses to share information with staff at other settings. Children now experience a more consistent level of care. The childminder shares tips for good practice with other local providers. She seeks fresh ideas for activities to help children make even better progress in their learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder frequently refreshes her knowledge of safeguarding. She shares details about her procedures with parents. She lets them know about her responsibility to share concerns about children with external agencies. The childminder checks mobile phones are used safely. For example, she requests her own children never take pictures of children she looks after.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children to explore a wide range of different textures. For example, she encouraged children to search for animals in a mixture of cornflour and water. Children enthusiastically dug their fingers around the bottom of the bowl and scraped up the thickened mixture with their fingertips. She supported younger children to develop their spatial awareness and they transported food between boxes. Older children developed their number skills as she counted with them. Children commented that 'gloop' felt heavier than water. The childminder enhances children's knowledge of the world. For instance, she discussed the type of food that farm animals eat and where they live. The childminder meticulously monitors children's development to check for gaps in their knowledge. She liaises with parents to talk about areas they can work on together.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to develop their physical skills. For instance, she supported them to collaborate with each other to push large vehicles. Friends jumped into the driving seat. Children used their whole bodies as they manoeuvred the cars across the garden. The childminder is warm, affectionate and patient. Children quickly form secure attachments to her, and they settle quickly. She is intuitive and she comforts children who need extra support, such as when she gives them a reassuring hug.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared to move on to the next steps in their learning, such as when they make the move to school. They develop high levels of independence and they are excited to complete tasks for themselves. For example, children carefully chop fruit. They limit the spread of germs and know to wash their hands before eating snack. Children care about others. For example, they hand resources to those waiting to use them.
