Children are keen to join in with activities and make good progress in their learning. The childminder helps children to develop curiosity and exploratory skills. She provides a stimulating and well-resourced outdoor environment. Young children develop good physical skills and thoroughly enjoy being in the fresh air. Children have secure bonds with the childminder. She has effective procedures to help them to settle in and she gathers information about their specific care needs. This helps her to promote inclusion and continuity in children's care and learning. The childminder has developed good partnerships with parents and other settings that children attend, such as nursery. She encourages parents to be involved in their child's ongoing learning and shares children's assessment information with teachers.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder helps children to learn about their own safety. She provides clear boundaries and encourages them to manage appropriate risks for themselves, particularly when they explore their surroundings.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
There are times when the childminder does not encourage children to further develop their existing self-help skills and independence. The childminder does not incisively evaluate her own practice and identify areas for future professional development.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the childminder's suitability to work with children. She discussed children's learning, assessment and planning with the childminder, and her methods of self-evaluation. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector considered verbal and written feedback from parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The qualified childminder has a good understanding of children's developmental stages and uses thorough assessments to carefully monitor their progress. This helps her to plan for every area of their learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibility to keep children safe and protect them from harm. She is aware of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about children's welfare and regularly completes risk assessments to identify and minimise potential hazards. The childminder has developed positive relationships with other professionals to help her gather information about good practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a thorough understanding of each child's individual stage of development and learning goals. She plans activities which are stimulating and interesting to them. For example, children enjoy exploring foam outdoors and experiment with a range of resources. The childminder extends their mathematical awareness by introducing number. She encourages them to observe the marks they make using the wheels of the trucks. Children stay engaged for extended lengths of time and begin to develop the skills they need for their eventual move on to school. The childminder helps the youngest children to develop their communication and language skills. She uses open questions and sensitively repeats words back to them to support their understanding.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and show that they feel safe with the childminder. They show a very strong exploratory impulse and the childminder provides plenty of praise to support their emotional well-being. The childminder gathers information from parents to help her meet children's individual needs. For example, she ensures she is aware of their home routines and attends training to help her meet any specific care needs, promoting inclusion. Children's behaviour is very good. The childminder teaches them to be kind and respectful towards each other. Young children begin to learn how to share and take turns, with support. The childminder supports children to develop an awareness of healthy lifestyles and to follow good hygiene routines. They wash their hands thoroughly before mealtimes and enjoy choosing from a range of fresh fruit at snack time.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points and are working at levels typically expected for their age. Areas of slower progress, such as some children's communication skills, are focused on to ensure any potential gaps in their learning are swiftly closed. Young children show confidence in their own ability and begin to develop good social skills as they seek to interact with each other.
