Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder completes regular child protection training to keep her knowledge and understanding up to date. She ensures that the home is safe and secure for children and uses regular risk assessments to minimise any potential hazards. The childminder reflects on the quality of her setting. She takes into account feedback from parents and children to develop and improve her practice. Children's progress is carefully monitored by the childminder to ensure that they are making good progress in their learning. The childminder has good partnerships with parents. She regularly shares information with them about children's development and discusses ways that they can support children's learning at home.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is well qualified. She provides a wide range of toys and activities which motivates and interests children. Children confidently explore the environment and choose from these resources happily. The childminder plans a wide range of outings to local toddler groups and parks. This supports children's social and emotional development well. The childminder interacts very naturally with children. She sits on the floor with them as they play, encouraging and supporting their interests and exploration. Young children are fascinated to see how fast they can make a toy car race across the floor, repeating the activity with great enjoyment. The childminder provides commentary while they are playing, giving them lots of praise and encouragement.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. The house is warm and welcoming to children and they quickly feel at home. The childminder ensures that children have flexible settling-in procedures. This helps new children to become familiar with her quickly. She gets to know children and their families well before they start with her, so she can put into place arrangements to meet any requirements they have. Young children are beginning to understand the rules and boundaries of the setting and show good listening skills when the childminder explains that climbing on toys is not safe. The childminder regularly praises children, which helps to boost their sense of self-esteem and confidence. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. They enjoy lots of fresh air and exercise in the garden.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and learn key skills in readiness for their move on to school. Young children learn how to feed themselves independently and take an interest in books, rhymes and songs. They communicate confidently with the childminder, using single words, sounds and gestures.
