This provision is good
The childminder prioritises her own professional development, for example, attending training and linking with other early years professionals to help her make continuous improvements to her teaching and provision. The childminder assesses children's abilities and uses these assessments to identify the main areas in which she needs to support their learning and development. Children learn a good range of skills and show readiness for their next stage of learning. The childminder promotes healthy lifestyles and children understand why good hygiene, such as handwashing and brushing their teeth is important to their health. The childminder is kind, supportive and caring. Children build positive, trusting relationships with her and with each other. She provides regular praise, which supports their emotional well-being effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always maximise opportunities to share detailed information with parents about their child's ongoing learning and progress, and support them to continue their children's learning at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
strengthen arrangements for sharing detailed information with parents so they are kept well informed about their children's ongoing achievements and supported to continue their child's learning at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with and considered written feedback from parents. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands what would constitute a safeguarding concern and the crucial importance of reporting any concerns she may have. Children are supervised closely and the childminder provides a safe environment to reduce the risk of accidents or incidents. The childminder reflects on the service she provides. She is aware of her strengths and has incorporated plans to manage the weaknesses identified. Parents are delighted with the care their children receive and their written and verbal testimonials demonstrate the high regard that parents have for the childminder.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans exciting and challenging activities and is fully involved in children's play. The childminder encourages children to 'have a go' and have confidence in their abilities. She engages them well and plans purposefully to support their individual learning needs. For example, she encourages children to count as they thread beads onto laces to create caterpillars, extending their identified next steps in mathematics. Children count with increasing accuracy. Children enjoy singing and reading stories in a relaxed environment where they are confident to explore.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and children attend several local group activities to introduce children to larger numbers of people. They enjoy attending singing and story sessions together and parents comment on how this supports their children's social development. The childminder ensures that children develop a good understanding of a healthy diet. She provides a range of nutritious snacks and water is available throughout the day. Children demonstrate that they feel happy and secure in the childminder's company and they enjoy her reassuring hugs and smiles. Children benefit from the good amount of praise and encouragement offered by the childminder, which helps to support their sense of self- esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making typical progress in all areas of learning and are working comfortably within the range of development for their age. Babies are motivated to explore and join in with play. The childminder promotes independence with the older children well and works in partnership with their school to support their self-care skills. For instance, she encourages the children to zip up their own coats and fasten their own buttons, and recognition from the school is given in the form of a certificate once the children have achieved this milestone.
