and young people since the most recent full inspection
Young people continue to thrive as a result of living in the home. Staff remain committed to improving the outcomes for young people, including supporting them to have autonomy and make decisions for themselves. Continuous close liaison by staff with schools, social workers and other relevant adults in the young person’s life ensures good communication. Young people are continuing to make progress at school and, in the main, attendance has improved. Young people who struggled to access activities in the community are now fully engaged in clubs, and their confidence is growing as a result. There have been no changes to the group of young people living in the home, and they have adapted well to some changes in the staff team. Staff continuously monitor changes in the actions and behaviours of the young people, Inspection report children’s home: SC064081 2 and adapt in order to meet their needs. An increase in incidents and the need for

physical intervention has been analysed and a pattern has emerged for one young person. As a result, planning has been improved and key times and events are better prepared for, ensuring that the young person feels calmer and safer. Staff recognise when young people are disengaging and work hard to re-engage them. During the inspection, staff were seen to work with a young person who is currently not attending school and has separated themselves from the group of other young people. Staff spoke about the young person’s plan and how they could support him to move forwards, rather than remain stuck in his current negative thought process. Managers are also realistic and recognised when they had supported and developed a young person as far as they are currently able to. The manager was proactive in seeking planning meetings with the placing authority to consider moving the young person to a more appropriate placement before he disengaged from all forms of help and guidance.

and young people since the most recent full inspection
The young person remains central, and the managers have championed the young person’s views. They highlight where the young person feels he has been given mixed or confusing messages by adults away from the home, including parents. There have been two incidents requiring referral to the designated officer within the local authority. In both cases, the young person had retracted their statements, and restorative meetings have taken place to ensure that the young person is able to share how they felt and to mend their relationship with staff. The home continues to liaise with partner agencies to ensure that safety plans are effective, and reflect the young person’s age and developing emotional well-being. All issues requiring notification to Ofsted have been referred in a timely manner. The managers continue to monitor the home regularly and are continually seeking to improve this in line with their quality of care review findings. They recognise that the

reports provided by the independent visitor contain information they already have, such as copies of menus and policies, but do still find aspects of the visits useful. The one recommendation set at the last inspection has been met through streamlining information in young people’s plans. There is now an easy-to-follow flow chart of how staff should respond to each young person should they be missing from care.

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the differences made to the lives of children and young people. They watched how professional staff work with children and young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care provided. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people whom it is trying to help, protect and look after.
