This provision is good

 The childminder is experienced and qualified. This is having a positive impact on the quality of care and education she provides for children and helps to ensure they make good progress. She monitors children's learning well and shares their progress with parents.  The childminder regularly completes observations and assessments of children's achievements and has a very good understanding of what they know and can do. She successfully uses the information to plan activities that support what children need to learn next.  Children settle quickly and are happy and relaxed in the childminder's home. The childminder is sensitive to the needs of the children and clearly enjoys their company.  The childminder supports children's language and communication skills well. She talks to children continually, responds positively to emerging words and expands their vocabulary by introducing and repeating new words as they play.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children have fewer opportunities to explore and investigate using their creativity and senses.  Self-evaluation is not precise enough to identify areas for improvements that particularly enhance future outcomes for children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is professional and well organised. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the possible signs of child abuse and the wider issues surrounding child protection. She understands her responsibility to safeguard children, maintains a safe and secure home and is vigilant in her supervision of children. Clear policies underpin the childminder's good practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly exchanges ideas with other childminders to inform improvements to her practice and attends training. She understands the importance of effective communication with other settings that children in her care attend. Parents comment on how much they value her good care and children's learning opportunities.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a homely environment and, overall, plans quality learning experiences, reflecting children's interests and needs well. The childminder is secure in her knowledge of child development and knows how to support young children's learning through play. She gets down to the children's level and joins in their play with enthusiasm to promote their enjoyment and motivation to learn. The childminder skilfully supports children's physical abilities, for example, they enjoy digging in the sand and climbing up and down the steps to the slide. From an early age, children develop a keen interest in books and enjoy stories and singing with the childminder.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder has formed strong relationships with the children. She constantly provides praise and encouragement to help children recognise their achievements. She gives clear expectations to children for their behaviour and safety. For example, children know to hold the handrail as they walk up and down the stairs. The childminder provides healthy, nutritious meals and snacks that children clearly enjoy. She supports children to develop their independence at an age-appropriate level. For example, young children learn to feed themselves and drink from a cup. The childminder teaches children good hygiene practices through the daily routines.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and gain a solid foundation that helps prepare them for future learning. Children develop good-social skills as they attend groups where they interact with other adults and children. They use mathematical language, count in routines and activities. They confidently recognise and name colours as they play.
