This provision is good
The childminder has established an effective two-way flow of information about children's progress with their parents. She keeps parents informed about what their child enjoys and gives them ideas to help continue with their children's learning at home. The childminder observes children as they play. She tracks their progress and plans a broad range of activities to support children's next steps in learning. Children make good progress and are keen to learn and explore. Children behave well and their emotional well-being is fully supported. The childminder is caring towards the children. Children are settled and happy in the friendly, welcoming play and learning environment she provides. The childminder is enthusiastic about the quality of care and learning experiences she offers children. She works well with professionals to provide continuity in children's learning. This helps to ensure that good outcomes for children are maintained.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder networks closely with other early years providers. This helps her keep up to date with changes in good practice and legislation.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not identify opportunities to offer even greater challenge to children to help them work out solutions for themselves. Although all of the children receive good support in their communication and language, it is not of the highest quality. Children who are below typical levels in speaking do not catch up as rapidly as possible.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children’s learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of safeguarding issues and her responsibilities. She is fully aware of the procedures to follow if she considers children may be at risk of abuse or harm. The childminder is well organised. She maintains and implements a wide range of policies, procedures and records that helps to promote children's welfare and learning. The childminder is committed to continuing her professional development to extend her good teaching skills even further. The childminder gathers the views of parents and children when she reflects on her practice. She uses these to support her drive forward for further improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with a wide range of interesting activities and resources to support their development in all areas of learning. The childminder engages well in the children's play. Children are excited and curious during play. For example, as they observe what happens when they roll colourful pompoms through a cardboard tube. The childminder supports children to develop an interest in stories and books. She stores books within children's reach so they can access them easily and includes books in everyday activities. Children enjoy snuggling up to the childminder and reading their favourite book. They point to pictures that they recognise and make good efforts at saying early words.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder works closely with parents to ensure children settle well. Children are developing an awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy healthy snacks and have regular opportunities to play outside. The childminder takes children on a variety of outings. This provides opportunities for them to learn about the wider world and their local community. She takes them regularly to toddler groups which provide opportunities for them to develop their social skills as they meet and play with other children. The childminder provides a good range of opportunities to help children to become confident in their own abilities and to develop their independence. For example, at snack time children peel small slices of banana and collect their own drink.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They become self-assured and confidently make choices as they play. Children develop a positive attitude to books and learn how to express themselves. They understand what is being said to them which, helps them to follow instructions. Children are learning useful skills that help to prepare them for the next stage in their learning.
