This provision is good
The childminder provides a wide range of learning experiences and children make good progress. She makes good use of the community to enhance children's understanding of the world around them. For example, children explore the local nature reserve and often visit the shops to buy ingredients for their baking activities. The childminder spends time observing children's development. She knows the children very well and she plans enjoyable activities to focus on children's next steps in learning. The childminder makes excellent use of all the spaces in her home to promote children's learning. Children's language and social skills are enlivened in the outdoor environment as they pretend to play shops and drive around the patio area in their cars. The childminder is very nurturing and sensitive to meeting the children's needs. She has developed excellent relationships with the children. Parents have resounding praise

for the childminder and the service that she provides. The childminder is enthusiastic and committed to improving her childminding practice. She gathers feedback from parents to further develop the service she offers.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder overwhelms the children with questions in quick succession and, as a result, they do not have time to think and respond. The childminder does not always respond quickly enough to what children say or do in order to offer immediate challenge to enhance their learning even further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of the signs and symptoms of possible abuse. She fully understands the procedures to follow should she have a concern regarding children's welfare. The childminder carries out thorough risk assessments to help keep children safe. She reviews her practice and provision effectively. For example, she continues to develop her professional knowledge through additional training and seminars. In addition, the childminder regularly meets with other early years professionals to share good practice and information about changes to legislation and guidance.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy exploring the sounds that musical instruments make. The childminder engages skilfully in their play as she encourages them to follow a rhythm and make 'loud' and 'quiet' sounds. The childminder enhances children's learning further as she demonstrates how to blow into a recorder, to make a sound. Once children have learnt this skill, they repeat this, showing their delight. The childminder promotes mathematics throughout children's play. She encourages children to count, match objects and think about concepts of shape and size. The childminder takes children to a playgroup so they can enjoy craft activities and have the opportunity to meet other children and build friendships.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children follow daily routines with ease and show that they feel safe and secure. The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She gives them clear, consistent rules and boundaries, which are appropriate to children's age and stage of development. The childminder reminds children about being kind, sharing and taking turns. She uses praise and encouragement well to promote children's confidence and self-esteem. Children learn how to keep safe and manage risks. For example, the childminder helps children climb steps on the slide, reminding them to hold on and sit down at the top. They delight as they attempt this themselves and develop new skills. The children eat a balanced range of healthy meals and snacks. They have many opportunities for physical play. This contributes to children's understanding of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress from their starting points. They happily explore the environment and make choices in their play, developing the skills they need for future learning. Children are supported as they move to pre-schools. The childminder provides them with many opportunities to develop self-help and independence skills. For example, children are supported to feed themselves and put on their shoes for outdoor play.
