Cambian Childcare Limited
Monitoring visit Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This children’s home is registered to provide care for up to five children who may have emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. The home is owned by a large social care provider.
p.1
This monitoring visit
At the inspection on 20 and 21 November 2017, the home was judged to be inadequate. As a result, Ofsted suspended the home’s registration from 24 November 2017 to 24 February 2018, and made 12 requirements. All four children who were in placement during the inspection were discharged by 24 November 2017. A monitoring visit took place on 19 January 2018 and a further interim inspection took place on 13 March 2018. The organisation currently has a condition on its registration, which means that it must inform Ofsted of its intention to admit children before a child commences living at the home. The registered manager has worked hard to meet all the requirements made at the interim inspection. Improvements have been made to the recruitment of new staff. For example, the registered manager now completes an evaluation of a person’s suitability before their employment is confirmed. This has created a better threshold so that children

are safeguarded. The registered manager is working hard to rebuild the staff team. Staff are now being appropriately supervised. The registered manager is also receiving regular supervision from her line manager. Team meetings are now taking place. These meetings are helping to ensure that staff understand the ethos of the home and that the home is ready to take new admissions. A programme of training is scheduled to enable all staff to have a better understanding of sexual harmful behaviour, self-harm and attachment. One staff Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: SC476267 2 member, who has worked in the organisation for over two years, is now making good progress in completing the required level 3 diploma in residential childcare. The home has been redecorated throughout. Each child’s bedroom has been decorated in a neutral colour to allow for personalisation. In preparation for

admissions, each child’s bedroom has a ‘welcome box’. This box contains copies of the home’s complaints process and a ‘worry bear’ for each child. A letterbox has also been fitted to the wall in the hallway. This enables children to let the manager know about any worries that they might have. The registered manager has reviewed the suitability of the location of the premises. However, the manager has not ensured that this review has included key partners, such as the police. The registered manager is enthusiastic about the future of the home. The registered manager plans to start admitting children on a gradual basis from the beginning of May 2018. This will allow the staff the time to attend core training and to review and update the locality risk assessment. As a result of this inspection, a change to the home’s conditions of registration has been made so that the home can start to re- admit children.
