The childminder provides a range of healthy snacks and drinks after school.  Parents demonstrate they are very pleased with the service provided by the childminder. They say their children are always happy, content and engage in interesting activities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the best possible use of self-evaluation to identify highly focused priorities for improvement to enhance future experiences for children.  The childminder does not always share sufficient information with children's class teachers to enable them to fully establish a complementary approach to children's activities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding about the signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows who to contact in her local authority with any such concerns. The childminder uses self-evaluation well, overall, especially to develop her care practices. For example, she has sought information to help her provide additional emotional support for children. The childminder carries out regular risk assessments of the home and for local outings. This helps to ensure children always play in a safe environment. The childminder works well with parents to gather the information she requires to meet children's needs consistently. She communicates with teachers at the school children attend to ensure their well-being and ensures that all relevant information is relayed to parents.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effectively promotes children's communication and language skills. She interacts positively with children of all ages and involves herself in their play. Children enthusiastically talk about their day at school and link their play to real-life experiences. They extend their imagination through role play. For example, they use puppets and play in the den to act out their own stories. Children hone their creativity skills as they paint and decorate rocks. They learn about their local environment and take part in community activities, hiding the rocks in the woods and parks for other children to discover.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children take an active role in ensuring they are all safe. For instance, they help the childminder mark names off the list as they gather in the playground after school. They learn about road safety as the childminder encourages them to check the roads and make decisions on when it is safe to cross. Children are happy and settle quickly when they arrive at the childminder's home. The childminder is a friendly and courteous role model. She supports children to play well together and develop their friendships. They share their resources and assist younger children when they need help. The childminder provides plenty of praise as children play. This helps to promote their levels of self-esteem. Children are confident and have very good manners. For example, they politely introduce themselves to new people and invite them to take part in their activities.
